WE PURCHASED SEVERAL 2002 FREIGHTLINER SPRINTERS AND HAVE HAD MANY PROBLEMS INCLUDING 2 ENGINE REPLACEMENTS. THESE VEHICLES ARE JUST OUT OF THE 6,00 MILE WARRANTY. I OWN A 2004 FREIGHTLINER SPRINTER WITH THE 2.7 DIESEL MOTOR. I HAVE HAD TWO FAILURES OF THE TURBO RESONATOR THAT IS A CHEAP PLASTIC PART THAT WILL FAIL REPEATEDLY CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO GO INTO "LIMP" MODE WITH LOSS OF POWER THAT IS VERY DANGEROUS. IT IS WELL KNOWN THAT MANY FAILURES OF THIS PART ARE COMMON AND THE MERCEDES FACTORY WILL DO NOTHING TO CORRECT IT. *TR

I HAVE HAD FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS WHEN THE EGR VALVE ON MY SPRINTER HAS LEAKED OIL ALL OVER THE MOTOR AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE COST FOR THIS REPAIR IS NOW OVER $500.00 EACH OCCURRENCE. THE AVERAGE MILEAGE FOR THIS FAILURE IS 25,000 MILES. NOT RIGHT FOR A MERCEDES BENZ PRODUCT THAT DOESN'T HAVE THIS PROBLEM IN EUROPE. *JB

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
