The Engine Control Module (ECM) malfunctioned. The dealer replaced it with a new one. When it malfunctioned, the car would not accelerate to a speed greater than 20mph. This was dangerous because I was driving on a state highway where the speed limit is 55mph, and I could have been rear-ended. Since having the ECM replaced, the car's performance has been fine. The Check Engine light did activate more than one day before the incident, which also sent a message to the Genesis app on my phone.

Since the coasting feature on the Genesis GV80 and similar models is inoperative, it could mean that Genesis misrepresented the vehicle’s fuel efficiency and emissions performance. The coasting function is designed to disengage the engine from the drivetrain to improve fuel economy, and because it doesn’t work as advertised, real-world MPG may be lower than stated. This could mislead consumers who purchased the vehicle expecting better efficiency. Additionally, coasting reduces engine load and fuel consumption, meaning that with it disabled, ca…

I bought my 2021 GV80 used with 15,500 miles. After driving not even 100 miles, we experienced the vehicle stalling and having no power. Giving it gas, the RPM's would not rise and the engine then shut off. The engine light briefly turned on but did not stay on. After the car shut down and turned back on, we kept driving. We took the vehicle immediately to the dealer where they proceeded to tell us there is nothing wrong because the diagnostics came back fine. But now this exact same thing has happened on 7 different occasions after driving…

The first time reported was in December 2025 at a cost of $3400 out of pocket. Now I see this recall for a potential fire that can be caused by the manufacturer defect. This is very concerning, since the vehicle has been serviced since I purchased the Genesis as a gift to myself in November 2021. This does not sit well with me, with Genesis being a "Luxury" brand.

On two occasions in the last month the car has suffered a loss of power with the accelerator unresponsive to input. After 5-10 seconds of this still actively occurring the car began to shake violently while I was trying to find a safe place to stop the car out of the traffic lanes. Within a minute or so things would go back to normal. The first time I was in a 35mph zone so the car was relatively controllable but unable to keep at speed. The second time was on the interstate at 70mph in heavy traffic. The car reacted much more dangerously at th…

On June 30, 2026 at approximately 1:13 PM EDT, my wife was maneuvering with the transmission in Drive to park our vehicle in the lot of our home. While in Drive, the driver's seat unexpectedly moved backward on its own, consistent with the vehicle's "Easy Access" seat memory feature activating. This left her unable to reach the brake pedal, and the vehicle careened over the curb and struck a stationary pole, resulting in damage to the front passenger side of the vehicle. Thankfully, neither the occupants of the vehicle, my wife and infant son, …

Battery begins discharge without warning while driving the vehicle. System begins complete shutdown without warning. Experiencing clunking and or jerking while driving no matter if speed acceleration/deceleration. Infotainment system goes out of function without notice - radio, sound, navigation, and safety cameras included. I feel unsafe during driving this vehicle as it does not give any warning when these issues occur. Once in traffic I had to slam on breaks after the truck just shot off after lightly pressing the gas to move forward. When…

When I was driving my 2023 GV 80, I was applying pressure onto the gas pedal and the car suddenly started jerking. The car was not accelerating then the check engine sign came on and then the car completely turned off. Then I restarted the car and it was moving really slow. Similar incident happened few other times and luckily I was able to pull over to the parking lot after turning on the hazard light. I drove my car over to the dealership and dropped it off. Total battery system failure to where vehicle would not start/restart, or if started via jumping, would stall out shortly thereafter. Battery problem to point to where jump starting is difficult due to shorted battery lowering availalble power to start/restart engine. This could have caused unexpected removal of power from the vehcile during traveling or in unsafe areas. This appears to be a very common problem with this vehicle as seen on various online forums and lack of part (battery) availability.

In 2 instances power steering doesn’t work and brakes go to the floor (it will stop, but very slowly). I believe pretty much every error code displays when this happens. Here’s some error codes: C165C87, C162387, C164286, C168787, U012300, C17024A, C174281. In addition, the back windshield cleaner sprays till it empties.
