Owner report 11462350 · 2022-04-26 (April 26, 2022)

Check engine light came on at 458 miles. Took it in and after an hour they determined it was the ecm. They said it was bad. Now they're on the hunt for one. In the meantime, in a day the truck has started feeling like it's over shifting and then bogging down. 458 miles, really! I'm going to need a loaner for longer than I've had it and still make payments.

On 05/28/2022 my family was driving my brand new 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 3.0 Diesel at a rate of 60mph. There was suddenly a loud clunk (transmission) after proceeding a little further and getting speed back to 60mph there was a similar “clunk”… the diesel truck then immediately gained several various check engine / sensor lights all over the dash and went into Limp Mode. Owner report 11602728 · 2024-07-16 (July 16, 2024)

On June 8th I started my truck and it made a strange unfamiliar noise before starting. I thought it was bizarre. Shortly after I stopped in traffic and my truck stalled out. It stayed on but when I went to give it gas I didn’t move. So I restarted the engine and the same strange noise was made. Along with the noise I smelled something funny so I pulled into a gas station. Little did I know my truck was on fire. I got the vehicle away from the gas pumps and within 5 minutes the whole truck was on fire. Before this fire I had brought the vehicle …

Electrical component- Dashboard is constantly glitching, blue-tooth will not connect properly, electrical appears to turn off randomly while driving to the point we have to pullover because it appears and feels like the truck is turning off. Power step running boards malfunction- They don't open or close when they are supposed to. Power step running boards also malfunction while driving. I purchased this vehicle to tow a 7,600 pound RV trailer with Electromagnetic brakes. This truck has an integrated brake controller. The truck keeps giving error messages: Check trailer wiring issues. Brakes not connected, etc. I have troubleshoot the trailer wiring and replaced most of it. I still have the issue. Online I see many people stating similar issues. Supposedly my truck has an error code associated with the brakes but dealer is of not help.

I do not have an official communication from the dealer who is servicing my vehicle. However, they have had my vehicle for almost 3 weeks and they tell me that the engine has failed and needs complete replacement. They said the engine lost compression and quit running, it now cranks and does not start. Although the engine has not been disassembled we believe the point fo failure to be in the rotating assembly of the bottom end of the engine.

The driver's side floor mat will not stay in place because the device that is supposed to hold it in place is broken. The floor mat is now able to move forward and interfere with the function of the brake and/or accelerator. Both the dealership (Castle Rock GMC, Colorado) and GMC Customer Care (Case #: 91-11325687695) have ignored all requests to address this and other issues. I have also written letters to GMC Corporate and the Castle Rock GMC General Manager, both of which were also ignored.

UNKNOWN - While driving down the highway, the front hood molding flew off the front of my truck after a semi passed by me going the opposite direction. No physical contact was made to any part of my vehicle had occurred. The molding piece flew directly behind me on the highway and almost hit another car. I pulled over and inspected the front and noticed that the plastic clips that hold the molding piece in place had snapped off. My truck was serviced for the front chrome grill separation recall last year. On Saturday, 8/1/2026 while driving at highway speed the grill deflector separated from the vehicle violently. I was able to pull off of the highway and remove the part as only the passenger corner clip (with screw) was partially retaining the deflector. Upon looking at the "repair" or recall, the corrective action does not appear to have been done correctly per N242490120. The chrome coating was not scuffed let alone removed from the part and an insufficient amoun…

Top Grill/Hood trim piece - it is separate from the main Grill. It detached and flew off at interstate speed. Thank God it missed several cars behind me. The passenger side corner came loose and before I could safely make my way off the interstate the piece ripped all the way across and flew over the top of the truck. May have gone 30 feet in the air prior to landing on the asphalt between the two lanes.

For the past 6 months I’ve had issues with my crash avoidance system, steer assist and lane departure warning. The crash indicator light would illuminate on my dash for no apparent reason. That would disable my crash warning system, steer assist and lane departure warning but, I could still adjust my distance for my brake warning indicator. The other problems that are not safety related is cruise control and automatic high beam lights will not function. I researched the Internet and found this is not an uncommon problem for this year model. The…

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Vehicle does not have a notification via chime or message stating the rear tailgate is open. There is a button on the dash that can open the tailgate when the vehicle is stopped at an intersection, this can be inadvertently pressed without the driver knowing, causing the vehicle to drop any cargo when accelerating or leaving the intersection. This can lead to serious injury or to any vehicle behind it. Many owners have already reported losing cargo such as tool boxes, paint cans and groceries spilling throughout intersections.

While unlocked, passenger doors go through unlocking phase, door locks click, parking lights flash and tail gate comes open. Along with this, an electric motor sound comes from underneath the vehicle (pre start fuel pressurization sequence?) that goes on and on, doors locked, or unlocked, that, left unchecked, drains the battery. Must be hooked to battery recharger round the clock.

The car consumes oil to the point there's no oil in the engine. Not a result of a leak but rather the engine is actually burning it. I've taken it to 4 dealers, all confirmed it's due to Kia's bad engine design & that there's no visible leak anywhere. The kia dealer also confirmed there is no oil level sensor but only an oil pressure sensor. According to the dealer, I don't qualify for a new engine until the check engine light turns on or the vehicle results in a fire. I have to get the oil topped off every 500 miles. In the past 6 years I have owned 4 GMC 6.2L trucks the first was a 2019 no issues great truck. The second unfortunately had a Short life with another vehicle. In 2023 The third a 2021 Denali 6.2L truck at 34k began using oil and blowing blue smoke out the tailpipes. The dealer started an oil consumption test (like you couldn’t see it happening) so finally at 45k they tore down the engine and found worn out valve guides and scored cylinders. They ordered an engine the engine was installed and it failed in 25 miles come to find out it was not oil…

I was on a hunting trip when my almost brand-new GMC Sierra 6.2L broke down, approximately 20,000 miles on it. The vehicle started making a ticking noise while I was driving out of state, en route to our lodge. Early the next morning the engine light came out and the vehicle came to rest close to a stop sign. I was very fortunate someone was following me in a different vehicle. The vehicle would not start afterward and had to be towed to the closest dealership. Being a new GMC owner and nearly 7 hours away from home and in an unknown area was e…

After leaving my truck parked for a couple of hours over dinner I returned to find error messages stating "Service Power Steering / Drive With Care" and "Service ESC". I also received a notification from OnStar stating "Diagnostic Alert: Service the Antilock Braking System in your 2022 Sierra within 1 day." My power steering was non-functional, nor were any cruise control functions. Repeated stop / start cycles did not clear the errors or regain functionality.
