The adjustment on the steering column for telescopic/up/down adjustments doesn't hold the steering wheel in place, even under light pressure like trying to honk the horn, the column just pushes in. Since the column cannot stay in place under light pressure, it won't stay in place if the driver's airbag is deployed possibly causing severe injury or death. I first noticed this problem back in 2015, the local deal refused to fix the problem and wanted me to pay for the NEW steering column and the labor to replace it.

Owner report 11705068 · 2025-12-15 (December 15, 2025)

The vehicle developed rod knock consistent with rod bearing failure. The symptoms match known Hyundai Theta II engine defects that led to prior recalls and warranty extensions on similar engines. Vehicle was diagnosed by dealership with rod knock. Manufacturer denied goodwill repair citing warranty expiration despite failure characteristics matching known manufacturing defects. Engine failure presents a safety concern due to potential sudden loss of power.

My VIN# does not appear in the Recall Listing of Hyundai vehicles that are at risk for fires, but 2014 models should be. The original engine was replaced on 12/9/2020, as something melted inside, causing it to seize up. It was replaced with a used engine, with only 51,000 miles. My engine compartment caught on fire, on 10/3/2021, while my son was driving the vehicle on the highway. This model also needs to be placed on the recall list for fire risk!

Complete engine failure due to connecting rod bearing failing on my car on Thanksgiving day. Conveniently Hyundai has a open recall on their Sonata, Santa Fe and Santa Fe sport, and the Veloster for this exact issue but not on the Genesis coupe? What kind of [XXX] is that? And of course I'm 16 thousand miles past the factory drivetrain warranty. What a joke, looks like I'm never buying a Hyundai again. My VIN# does not appear in the Recall Listing of Hyundai vehicles that are at risk for fires, but 2014 models should be. The original engine was replaced on 12/9/2020, as something melted inside, causing it to seize up. It was replaced with a used engine, with only 51,000 miles. The adjustment on the steering column for telescopic/up/down adjustments doesn't hold the steering wheel in place, even under light pressure like trying to honk the horn, the column just pushes in. The brake pedal travel is inconsistent when applying the brakes. Sometimes when you press the brake pedal the brakes respond immediately. Other times when you apply the brakes you have to push the brake pedal an uncomfortably long distance before the brakes start to respond. This problem is intermittent, so you never really know when its going to happen. This is dangerous. It appears that vehicle models in prior rears, up to 2012, have a recall for the ABS / Stability Control System for these same car types.

Last December, 12/11/2021, my son and I traveled from Pittsburgh PA to Columbus Ohio so he could buy a used car from a dealer. It was a 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe. We spent a few hours at the dealership, I co-signed for him, and he drove back the Hyundai while I drove my own car. Nothing was disclosed to us that we would have questioned. Hyundai is saying I can’t park or drive without concern of a fire hazard. Hyundai was called and they said a remedy would be available by the end of the month. That was said in November and now it is the middle of January. I need a vehicle for everyday life and this is getting costly for me. Usually a remedy is to be resolved within a reasonable time, two weeks on average, contractually speaking. Please resolve this problem immediately.

WHILE DRIVING WHEN I GO TO STOP OR SLOW DOWN THE BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR. IT'S REAL HARD TO STOP THE CAR, I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER AND I WAS TOLD THAT IT'S THE HECU A 3,000 $ FIX. I KNOW THAT OTHER GENESIS OWNERS HAVE COMPLAINED OF THE SAME PROBLEM. IT'S VERY DANGEROUS FOR ME AND OTHER VEHICLES AROUND ME. I KNOW THAT HYUNDAI HAS RECALLED OTHER VEHICLES FOR THIS PROBLEM DUE TO FAULTY BRAKE FLUID THAT DISTROYS THE HECU. IT SURE SEEMS TO BE WHAT HAPPENED TO MINE.

GENESIS COUPE HAS BEEN TO THE MECHANIC THREE TIMES FOR BRAKE FAILURE. THE ROTORS, PADS, AND CALIPERS WERE REPLACED THE FIRST TIME AND THE BRAKES STILL DIDNT WORK. THE SECOND AND THIRD TIME THE BRAKE LINES WERE BLED, AND THE BRAKES STILL FAILED. THE BRAKE PEDAL LOSES PRESSURE AND PUSHES ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE GROUND WHILE DRIVING CAUSING INABILITY TO BRAKE THE CAR. MECHANIC SAYS THE PROBLEM MAY BE HECU AS WITH THE PRIOR RECALL FOR GENESIS SEDANS. THERE ARE NO OTHER BASES FOR THE FAILURE THAT HE CAN FIND.

The engine consumed oil and prematurely wore out the rod bearings. This is an issue that has already been settled in a class action lawsuit. The only issue is my car isn’t included in the lawsuit even though it is classified as the same motor that prematurely fails.
