Owner report 11522976 · 2023-05-20 (May 20, 2023)

My son was backing out of a parking spot at a strip mall. He released some pressure on the brake and indicated that the car lurched backwards and even though he reapplied full pressure to the brakes, he hit the car at the curb resulting in damage to our Tucson, but luckily not the to the other car. The Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist system did not engage, but my son indicated that the rear distance warning system did beep. I am concerned due to the sudden acceleration/lurching incident my son experienced and this is not acceptab…

While driving the vehicle, the acceleration stopped and the car came to a halt right in the middle of the road. It acted like the battery drained and the gas did not kick in. The only fix was to shut it off and turn it back on. Took it to dealership they said they couldn’t find anything wrong with it so we picked up the car and as soon as we drove off, it happened again. This could result in a fatality if it happens on a busy highway since there is no warning and it just stops working. Took it back and the dealer says they can’t find anything w…

While traveling out of town, our 2023 Tuscon HEV with 31,000k started chugging/hesitating during acceleration. This chugging continued to worsen, so we took it to a Hyundai dealership to diagnose. We were told that fuel injector #3 was misfiring, and, as they did not have the parts in stock, that it would be safe to make the 5 hour drive back home to service the vehicle. The backup alarm sound is unreasonably loud. I understand that it's a Hybrid Vehicle and can be quiet but very few ICE vehicle are as loud as the backup sound on my vehicle. One impact of the loud sound is that I find myself rushing to backup just to be able to get my vehicle out of reverse so that alarm can shut off. This is especially true when I'm in trying to avoid noise. This can be backing into my own driveway if I come home late at night so not to wake the family or neighbors. Neighbors have also complained that the sound is as if a semi…

The implementation of the hybrid car backup warning siren exceeds safe noise limits. In order to meet the fed reg requiring the vehicle to emit a sound that reaches the 56 db level 6 feet from the rear bumper- Hyundai installs a >90db speaker in the front of the car. Hesitation upon accelerating from a stopped position. When pulling out from a stop into a busy intersection the vehicle hesitates for several seconds. I have almost been broadsided when attempting to pull out onto a busier roadway. The vehicle feels as though it is stalled, then suddenly lunges. Apparently this is a known feature of the Hyundai hybrid after reading that it is the top complaint. There are no codes or warning lights that appear. I feel this is a safety issue. I purchased my vehicle from Ideal Hyundai on 04/23/26. On 06/22/26 (less than 2 months later), I was driving to work and the car started to lose power. The display said to check hybrid system and stop safely. After 10 minutes, I was able to drive the car 3 more miles to work. I took it to Ideal Hyundai the next day. I got the car back on 06/26/26 after they said they address the issue and the open recall. Two weeks later, on 07/23/26 I was driving home on a busy highway when the car began to lose power again. We were able to get to the side…

As I was (very slowly) pulling into a parking place at a park near my home and I was braking to come to a full stop, the car suddenly lurched forward, jumped the parking place barrier, and hit a tree. The front end of the car was badly damaged and the airbag opened. I sustained injuries to my left hand and my chest, though nothing was broken. The car was towed to a body shop, where it has been declared not reparable. Photos of the car at the scene are attached. This accident seems to be consistent with reports/recalls of the Hyundai Elantr…

There was/is a recall #290 on the tow hitch harness. There was a concern of a fire risk. Hyundai’s remedy was to cut the harness making the tow hitch unusable. This has been since March. The NHTSA is not putting any pressure on Hyundai to replace the harness. The nHTSA doesn’t acknowledge that this recall is still open. All consumers like me who purchased this option can not use it due to the NHTSA recall. How can I get this issue addressed and resolved. It seams like no one is interested in addressing this problem

Unknown what fails. After driving approximately 30 minutes on a highway, car suddenly stops accelerating and bucks a bit as it slows. Must turn off car and turn it back on to accelerate again. Happens on the highway frequently. Very dangerous as there’s no way to accelerate. Only stop. It’s like it can’t find a gear and the engine revs. It happened 6 times during a 2.5 hour drive.

I am reporting a critical Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve failure on my 2023 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid. The failure resulted in an immediate loss of engine power, reduced vehicle performance, reduced fuel efficiency, and the vehicle entering limp mode while driving, creating a significant safety hazard in traffic. Diagnostic & Technical Details: Error Codes Captured: Diagnostic trouble codes in the P0400 series (EGR system flow/circuit malfunction) were confirmed during diagnostic inspection. Root Cause: The component failure is directly l…

The ABS, ! Brake and Auto Hold lights activated. I took in into the Hyundai Joplin, MO dealership on May 2, 2024. They could not find any thrown codes and suggested it was most likely the "IEB Module" which they replaced and after doing so, the warning lights remained activated. As of May 22, 2024, they are ordering a new IEB Module to install (backordered into June). This seems oddly similar to previous ABS and brake problems of earlier models and makes me feel uneasy with the safety of this vehicle should they ever get it remedied.

On four occasions in the last five weeks, I have been driving at relatively low speed (20-30 MPH), and when I attempt to accelerate, the vehicle will not accelerate when I press the gas pedal. The tachometer shows the RPMs are maxed out, but the vehicle does not accelerate no matter how hard I press the gas pedal. I have to pull off the road, turn off the vehicle, and restart to fix it. I am certain I have not accidentally hit any buttons or switches each time. I have tried changing drive modes (eco/normal/sport) and using the paddle shifte…

Our 2023 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid developed an issue with the forward radar. At speed, the car produces a warning ding and then a warning message is displayed stating, "Critical Forward Safety functions are limited. Radar blocked." If the adaptive cruise control is engaged at the time of the warning, it immediately disengages, forcing the driver to quickly respond. If there is a vehicle in the adjacent lane to the right, the automatic braking may at times activate. It happens rain or shine, in good or inclement weather. We have cleaned the areas o…

On June 3, 2025, I experienced a terrifying and dangerous incident while driving my 2023 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid on a three-lane road at approximately 50 mph. Without any warning, the gas pedal became completely unresponsive, and the car abruptly decelerated from 50 to 20 mph. This sudden loss of acceleration was incredibly frightening, especially with vehicles close behind me that nearly collided with mine. There were no warning lights or check engine alerts. Fortunately, I was able to safely cross all lanes and pull over before having the vehic…
