While inspecting our recently purchased 5th wheel RV I noticed that the left front tire makes contact at times with a frame outrigger. The other three tires do not have an outrigger over them. I have contacted the local dealership, Big Sky RV who did not reply. I then contacted Jayco who pushed me to Lippert, the frame manufacturer who in turn pushed me back to Jayco claiming Jayco designed the frame. I provided pictures as requested to both but neither one appears to want to take corrective action or let know if this is a safe operating condit…

THE WIRING FOR THE ELECTRIC BRAKES WERE ROUTED OVER AND WRAPPED AROUND THE SPRINGS. THE WIRES WERE WRAPPED TIGHT ENOUGH THAT THERE WAS NO SLACK IN THE WIRING. THIS CONDITION WOULD EVENTUALLY LEAD TO THE WIRES SHORTING OUT CAUSING A FAILURE IN THE TRAILER'S BRAKING SYSTEM AND POSSIBLY TOW VEHICLE'S BRAKE CONTROLLER. I HAVE REPORTED THIS TO A FACTORY REPRESENTATIVE BUT I'M NOT CONFIDENT THEY UNDERSTAND THE SAFETY IMPLICATIONS. I FOUND THIS CONDITION WHILE INSPECTING THE TRAILER FOR OUR FIRST TRIP AND HAD THE WIRING REROUTED. I DO BELIEVE THAT THI…

The RV awning is separating at the seams on all 4 corners. If the awning continues to fall apart at the seam, it could cause the awning to fall or not roll in correctly and while traveling down the road it can become loose. It has been taken to a dealer and the confirmed it is coming apart at the seams. It has not been inspected by anyone else.

When retracting our 22' awning, the pin going from the awning tube to the awning motor sheared completely and allowed the awning tube to fall. It remained connected on the other end. If there had been a person sitting under the awning, they most likely have been struck by the awning tube. I had a failure analysis expert inspect the pin and his findings were that the groove in this pin was machined incorrectly and created a stress riser which contributed to the failure. The welding job and the weak, inferior metal used to stabilize the the axels is faulty. We had an eight foot piece of iron fall off on the highway at 60mpg and nearly caused a massive pile up accident on top of damage to our 5th wheel, also making it nearly impossible to drive until we could find a metal fabricator to fix the problem, a simple weld job was not possible due to a poor, dangerous design by the manufacture of the frame. We have had the frame fixed 3 times so far until we finally found an engineer who understood the stupid design…

He also stated that the pin should have some type of sleeve that in the ev…

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

While inspecting our recently purchased 5th wheel RV I noticed that the left front tire makes contact at times with a frame outrigger. The other three tires do not have an outrigger over them. I have contacted the local dealership, Big Sky RV who did not reply. I provided pictures as requested to both but neither one appears to want to take corrective action or let know if this is a safe operating condit…
