THE WIRING FOR THE ELECTRIC BRAKES WERE ROUTED OVER AND WRAPPED AROUND THE SPRINGS. THE WIRES WERE WRAPPED TIGHT ENOUGH THAT THERE WAS NO SLACK IN THE WIRING. THIS CONDITION WOULD EVENTUALLY LEAD TO THE WIRES SHORTING OUT CAUSING A FAILURE IN THE TRAILER'S BRAKING SYSTEM AND POSSIBLY TOW VEHICLE'S BRAKE CONTROLLER. I HAVE REPORTED THIS TO A FACTORY REPRESENTATIVE BUT I'M NOT CONFIDENT THEY UNDERSTAND THE SAFETY IMPLICATIONS. I FOUND THIS CONDITION WHILE INSPECTING THE TRAILER FOR OUR FIRST TRIP AND HAD THE WIRING REROUTED. I DO BELIEVE THAT THI…

Recall history

4 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

15V259000 · Suspension:Rear:Axle:Non-Powered Axle Assembly

Reported: 2015-05-04 (May 4, 2015)

Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain model year 2016 Eagle FW WB trailers manufactured April 20, 2015, to April 21, 2015. In the affected trailers, the studs that are used to attach the wheels to the axle hubs may break.

Consequence: If the wheel studs break, the wheel could detach from the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Jayco will notify owners, and dealers will replace any affected wheel hub, free of charge. The recall began on June 15, 2015. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-283-8267. Jayco's number for this recall is 9901238.

15V685000 · Equipment:Other:Labels

Reported: 2015-10-21 (October 21, 2015)

Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain model year 2016 Eagle Half Ton (HT) fifth wheel trailers manufactured May 19, 2015, to October 8, 2015. The affected vehicles do not have warning labels on the towing hitch to identify the maximum gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) for towing, maximum tongue weight and towing vehicle braking information.

Consequence: A vehicle operator could unknowingly overload the trailer, which may result in tire or axle failure and increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Jayco will notify owners, and dealers will apply the proper warning label, free of charge. The recall began on December 2, 2015. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-283-8267. Jayco's number for this recall is 9901265.

16V120000 · Electrical System:12v/24v/48v Battery:Cables

Reported: 2016-02-29 (February 29, 2016)

Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain model year 2016 Eagle Half Ton fifth wheels and Eagle travel trailers manufactured April 8, 2015, to February 19, 2016. In the affected trailers, the positive cable (B+) connecting the battery box to the roof-mounted solar panel preparation package may not be protected by a circuit breaker.

Consequence: Without circuit protection, the wire may short circuit, increasing the risk of a fire.

Remedy: Jayco will notify owners, and dealers will tie the unprotected circuit into a 30amp circuit breaker, free of charge. The recall began on March 18, 2016. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-283-8267. Jayco's number for this recall is 9901286.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
16V560000 · Electrical System: Integrated Trailer Brake Control

Reported: 2016-07-27 (July 27, 2016)

Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Jay Feather, Jay Flight, Jay Flight SLX, Eagle, White Hawk, and Octane travel trailers manufactured January 5, 2016, to July 18, 2016, equipped with a Sway Command anti-sway system. When connected to certain tow vehicles that have an integrated brake controller, and after the anti-sway system has applied the trailer brakes in response to a sway event, the trailer brakes may no longer function to slow or stop the trailer.

Consequence: A loss of trailer brakes may lengthen the distance needed to stop the vehicle and cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Jayco will notify owners, and dealers will remove the Sway Command system from the affected travel trailers, free of charge. The recall began on August 3, 2016. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-283-8267. Jayco's number for this recall is 9901308.

If the awning continues to fall apart at the seam, it could cause the awning to fall or not roll in correctly and while traveling down the road it can become loose. When retracting our 22' awning, the pin going from the awning tube to the awning motor sheared completely and allowed the awning tube to fall. It remained connected on the other end. If there had been a person sitting under the awning, they most likely have been struck by the awning tube. I had a failure analysis expert inspect the pin and his findings were that the groove in this pin was machined incorrectly and created a stress riser which contributed to the failure. WITH LESS THAN 4500 MILES THE REAR AXLE FAILED, CAUSING SEVERE WEAR ON THE TIRE. WHEN RESEARCHING, THERE APPEARS TO BE A LOT OF COMPLAINTS IN REGARDS TO AXLE FAILURE. DEXTER REPLACED THE AXLE, BUT JAYCO WOULD NOT COVER THE REPLACEMENT UNDER WARRANTY, AND ADVISED I TAKE IT TO THE NEAREST JAYCO DEALERSHIP (72 MILES AWAY) USING THE SPARE. DURING THAT SHORT DRIVE TO HAVE THE REPAIRS DONE, THE SPARE SHOWED SEVERE WEAR ALSO.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
