Recall history

4 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

07V118000 · Structure

Reported: 2007-03-20 (March 20, 2007) · Model years: 2007

ON CERTAIN TRAVEL AND FIFTH WHEEL TRAILERS EQUIPPED WITH HICKORY SPRINGS 'BIG EASY TRIPLE STEPS,' AN IMPROPER ENGAGEMENT OF THE BOTTOM STEP PIVOT ARM WITH THE FORMED STOP EDGE OF THE MIDDLE STEP SUPPORT BRACKET CAN RESULT IN THE BOTTOM STEP ROTATING TO AN UNSAFE DOWNWARD ANGLE.

Consequence: A PERSON COULD BE INJURED SHOULD THE STEP GIVE WAY WHILE BEING USED TO ENTER OR EXIT THE TRAILER.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE TRAILERS FOR THE MANUFACTURING DATE STICKER TO VERIFY THE DATE OF PRODUCTION OF THE STEP AND, IF NECESSARY, WILL WELD STOCK TO EACH SIDE OF THE LOWER (TRIPLE) STEP STOP EDGES. THE RECALL BEGAN ON MARCH 30, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT JAYCO AT 1-800-283-8267.

Consequence: THIS STANDARD SPECIFIES TIRE AND RIM SELECTION REQUIREMENTS AND RIM MARKING REQUIREMENTS.

Remedy: THE INCORRECT LABEL WILL BE REMOVED AND A NEW CORRECT LABEL WILL BE INSTALLED. THE RECALL BEGAN ON MAY 15, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT JAYCO AT 1-800-283-8267.

17V746000 · Equipment

Reported: 2017-11-21 (November 21, 2017) · Model years: 2008, 2009, 2010

Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling various 2002-2016 recreational vehicles equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. A list of the affected trailer models is available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V746-9524.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. For a full list of the affected fire extinguisher models visit: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17E062-5427.pdf

Consequence: In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.

Remedy: Jayco will notify owners, instructing them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began on January 15, 2018. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-283-8267, or Kidde customer service toll-free at 1-855-262-3540, or online at www.kidde.com and click on "Product Safety Recall" for more information.

12V347000 · Electrical System

Reported: 2012-07-23 (July 23, 2012) · Model years: 2010

Jayco is recalling certain model year 2007 Greyhawk Class C motorhomes; model year 2008 and 2010 Seneca Class C motorhomes; model year 2009 and 2011 Eagle Fifth-wheel; 2010 Recon fifth-wheel; and model year 2008-2010 Designer fifth wheel vehicles manufactured from June 15, 2006, through August 13, 2010 for an improper electrical connection at the buss bar on the Iota-brand transfer switches installed in the vehicles.

Consequence: An improper electrical connection at the buss bar could lead to overheating and melting of the transfer switch, increasing the risk of a fire, injury or death.

Remedy: Jayco will notify owners, and dealers will replace the transfer switch, free of charge. The safety recall began on August 31, 2012. Owners may contact Jayco at 1-800-283-8267.

The contact owns a 2010 Jayco Recon. The contact stated that after turning on the air conditioner, there was a smoke odor detected. The contact initially thought the smoke odor was from the air conditioner not being used for a long period. Smoke then filled the bathroom. The contact inspected the transfer switch on the bedroom wall and noticed that the transfer switch was charred. The RV was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
