Owner report 11066534 · 2018-02-01 (February 1, 2018)

WHILE DRIVING THE CAR ON ANY ROAD (CITY OR HIGHWAY) IT WANTS TO DRIFT TO THE SIDE AND WHEN YOU GO TO CORRECT THE STEERING IT FEELS STICKY, FOR LACK OF BETTER WORDS, AND THERE IS A DELAY IN THE RESPONSE. SO I END UP OVER CORRECTING, AND I'M ALL OVER THE ROAD. THIS CAR IS SO UNSAFE AS IT IS RIGHT NOW. I'VE TAKEN MY CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE, CALLED CONSUMER ADVISORS FOR KIA, HAS A TECH GO FOR A TEST DRIVE, AND SPOKE TO THE SERVICE MANAGER. WHILE THEY CAN VERIFY THERE'S AN ISSUE, THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING TO FIX IT.

A FEW MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING THE 2017 KIA SORENTO WE BEGAN NOTICING STEERING ISSUES. IT DOESN'T HAPPEN ALL THE TIME BUT APPEARS TO HAPPEN AFTER THE CAR WARMS UP. YOU MUST CONSTANTLY ADJUST THE STEERING TO DRIVE STRAIGHT. THE CAR WILL DRIFT TO THE LEFT AND WHEN YOU TRY TO CORRECT, THE CAR FIGHTS YOU. ALL OF THE SUDDEN, THE STEERING RELEASES AND THEN THE CAR DRIFTS RIGHT AND THE STEERING FIGHTS YOU TRYING TO ADJUST LEFT. IT MAKES IT VERY DIFFICULT TO KEEP THE VEHICLE DRIVING STRAIGHT EVEN ON STRAIGHT, FLAT ROADS. I STATED BELOW THAT IT H…

Strong gasoline odor was noticed coming from the rear of the vehicle. Took it to the dealership where they replaced the gas cap assuming that was the problem. Gasoline odor progressively increased. Took the vehicle back to the dealership. Diagnostic tests were performed. Inspection found fuel pump leaking fuel. No warning lamps, messages, or symptoms of the problem prior to the failure were ever displayed. This could have been extremely dangerous putting our family at risk. It also should have been covered due to being a safety risk.

Kia has failed to provide proper protection for their radiator on their Sorento and Telluride models. My passenger interior dash and glove box trim are melted. I’ve had it checked out by Kia, however they do not see where an origin could have come from. The day i noticed it, my vehicle had been hit on the front right passenger fender. The melting looked to be electrical or caused by a combustion of sort but we also believe it could have been caused by reflection off of the interior of my vehicle to that spot. I live in Michigan, the temperature was above 80*.

The vehicle's electronic variable valve timing actuator (E-CVVT motor) failed, triggering a severe "Limp Home" engine mode. This defect causes dangerous vehicle surging/jumping during acceleration, limits engine output to 1500 RPM while idling, generates abnormal engine noise, and prevents the vehicle from exceeding 60 mph. This makes merging onto fast-moving highways or maintaining the flow of traffic highly hazardous. The component defect was formally diagnosed at an authorized dealership (Herson’s Kia) on March 30, 2026. The manufacturer, K…

Vehicle has a recurring P0018 fault code (Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation Bank 2 Sensor A). Dealer diagnosed loose cam pins on Bank 2 requiring major engine repair. This fault creates a safety risk as improper camshaft timing can cause unexpected engine stalling while driving, resulting in sudden loss of power, power steering, and brake assist. The manufacturer has denied warranty coverage despite the vehicle being within the 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty. This appears to be a known widespread issue on the 3.3L V6…

I CRANKED MY CAR, PUT IT IN DRIVE, AND STARTED TO PULL OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY WHEN MY CAR SHOOK AND STALLED. ALL OF MY LIGHTS CAME ON. I THEN TRIED TO RESTART MY CAR BUT IT CONTINUED TO CRANK OVER WITHOUT STARTING. I GAVE IT A MINUTE AND TRIED IT AGAIN. THE CAR STARTED, I DROVE AWAY, STOPPED AT THE STOP SIGN, AND THE CAR STALLED AGAIN. I CRANKED THE CAR AGAIN, PUT IT IN REVERSE, IT CHUGGED BACKWARDS, AND THEN STALLED ONCE I GOT BACK INTO MY DRIVEWAY. I LET IT SIT FOR 5 MINUTES, CRANKED IT AGAIN, THEN IT WAS FINE.

AFTER 650 MILES: MERGING ONTO A HIGHWAY: ENGINE RATTLED. ENGINE DIED. WE COASTED TO THE SHOULDER. WE STOPPED. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK. SMOKE WAS COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. LOOKING UNDERNEATH, WE SAW THE CAR WAS ON FIRE. INITIALLY THE FIRE WAS UNDER THE ENGINE. WE GOT AWAY FROM THE CAR AND CALLED 911. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME AND PUT IT OUT. BY THIS POINT IT BURNED THE FRONT 2/3 OF THE CAR. THE CAR GOT TOWED TO AN AUTOMOTIVE TOWING PLACE.

My car was fine, then all of a sudden (after an oil change) it started knocking really loudly. I pulled over and the noise stopped- so I got back in the car a drive home. When I pulled into the driveway, I heard the noise again- knocking. I popped the hood and had daughter press the gas, sure enough- knocking again. I told husband and we parked it, he towed it to the dealership the next day. They said that because my car did not get the "campaign" update- ROD KNOCKING SENSOR- that the extended warranty was null and void. I asked to place a comp…

We purchased the vehicle with 45000 miles, within a year, the vehicle started to run very badly, car idle vibrates the whole vehicle. It stalls out on her sometimes, burns all the oil by the it is time to change oil, the mechanic says there is less than a quart left, but no leak as per mechanic! The vehicle will blow soon I’m sure, and my wife drives our children everyday. I was made aware of lawsuit settlement, which Kia was only required to send notice to first owner, so we had no idea!
