CONSUMER'S MAZDA SUV WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT AS A RESULT OF FAULTY WORK PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE BY TECHNICIANS AT PEP BOYS.*MR THE CONSUMER PURCHASED RIMS FROM A LOCAL RETAILER, HOWEVER WHEN HE RETURNED TO THE VEHICLE HE NOTICED ALL 4 OF THE RIMS HAD STAINS, RUST/ BLEMISHES. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE LOCAL MECHANIC SHOP DESTROYED HIS TRANSMISSION AND THE IGNITION.*JB
WHILE DRIVING AT 65MPH AND WITHOUT WARNING THE VEHICLE WILL STALL AND IT WILL BE HARD FOR THE CONSUMER TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. DEALER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS FUEL PUMP AND CRANK SENSOR FAILURE. TS
THE CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM WILL NOT SHUT OFF WHEN YOU APPLY THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN. YOU CAN SLOW THE CAR, BY BRAKING, BY 15-20 MPH AND THE SYSTEM CONTINUES TO ACCELERATE. THE ONLY WAY TO SHUT OFF THE CRUISE CONTROL IS TO HIT THE OFF SWITCH ON THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS COULD LEAD TO UNCONTROLLED SPEED AND POSSIBLE CRASH.
MY VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN MY ATTACHED GARAGE ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON , SOMETIME DURING THE NIGHT THE DASH WAS ON FIRE , SUNDAY AFTERNOON WE WENT TO GET IN THE VEHICLE AND THE ENTIRE DASH WAS BURNED, WE CALLED THE FIRE DEPT AND WAS TOLD WE WERE VERY LUCKY THE VEHICLE DID NOT BLOW THE SIDE OF THE HOUSE OFF AND IT APPEARED TO BE ELECTRICAL, WE CALLED OUR INSURANCE AND KOONS OF WESTMINSTER. MY INSURANCE COMPANY HIRED AN INVESTIGATER TO FIND THE CAUSE , HE SAID IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL FAILURE IN THE TAPE DECK. PRIOR TO THIS I NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE …
PULLEY WAS DEFECTIVE AND REDESIGNED. OWNERS SHOULD BE NOTIFIED THAT PULLEY CAN DISENTEGRATE CAUSING BELT TO BREAK RESULTING IN LOSS OF POWER STEERING, OVERHEATING, AND BATTERY CHARGING. THE COMPANY REDESINGED THE PULLEY SO THEY KNOW THEY HAD A PROBLEM, BUT THE CONSUMER IS AT RISK. IT ALSO COST $165.00 PARTS AND LABOR TO FIX. IF IT WAS A DESIGN PROBLEM, I THINK I SHOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR THE FAILURE. FORTUNATELY, I WAS STOPPED AT THE TIME THE BELT SEPARATED. I WOULD HATE TO HAVE LOST MY STEERING AT 70 MPH.*AK

I JUST RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM BRIDGESTONE FIRESTONE ON A TIRE RECALL FROM YEARS AGO. I BOUGHT A NEW MAZDA NAVAJO IN 1993 AND IT HAD FIRESTONE ATX TIRES. THEY FAILED WAY BEFORE ANY RECALL SO I REPLACED THEM AT MY COST WITH THE SAME. THESE TIRES FAILED ALSO SO I REPLACED THEM WITH SOMETHING ELSE. 2 SETS (10 TIRES) AT MY COST. WHEN THE RECALL CAME OUT I GOT NOTHING. IN FACT, I DIDN'T EVEN OWN THE VEHICLE ANYMORE. MY COMPLAINT IS...WHEN IT TAKES SO LONG TO IDENTIFY A PROBLEM, WHAT ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO HAD PROBLEMS BEFORE THE RECALL? THEY CA…
WHILE DRIVING AT 25 MPH, THE SUNROOF OF THE VEHICLE WAS BLOWN OFF BY THE WIND. THE SUNROOF TILTS UP AT THE REAR AND THE DEALER CAN NOT EXPLAIN HOW THE ROOF COULD BE LOST. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS PART, BUT THE CONSUMER'S VIN IS NOT INCLUDED. *PH
DUE TO THE CONTROL ARM AND THE BUSHING FAILURE THE VEHICLE SHAKES. *AK CONSUMER STATES THE FRONT END OF VEHICLE MAKES A NOISE AND DOES NOT STOP PORPERLY, TRANSMISSION MOUNTS CAUSE THE ENGINE TO MOVE FOWARD/BACKWARD WHILE STOPPING AND ACELERATION, CONSUMER ALSO HAD SHOCKS AND TRANSMISSION MOUNT REPLACED.*JB
WHILE DRIVING 70MPH RIGHT REAR PASSENGER FIRESTONE ATX TIRE BLEW OUT, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LOSE CONTROL, AND GO UNDER A SEMI -TRAILER AND ROLL OVER. VEHICLE WAS A MAZDA NAVAJO. DOT # WIHLAT51561. *AK
THE VEHICLES TIRES EXPERIENCED MANY FAILURES PRIOR TO RECALL NOTICE, THE CONSUMER REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT BUT WAS DENIED BECAUSE THE REPLACEMENT TIRES WERE PURCHASED PRIOR TO JANUARY 1, 2000 (FIRESTONE ATX P235/75R15). NLM
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE BECAME UNSTABLE AND DIFFICULT TO DRIVE, CONSUMER IMMEDIATELY SLOWED DOWN WITH GREAT DIFFICULTY, WAS ABLE TO PULL VEHICLE OVER TO THE SHOULDER, GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND INSPECTED THE FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT TIRES AND SAW THAT ONE OF THE TIRES HAD COME COMPLETLEY APART AND WAS IN SHREDS AROUND THE WHEEL, ALL 4 TIRES WERE REPLACED AND CONSUMER IS REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT. *JB
WHILE DRIVING WITH CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED, THE SYSTEM WOULD NOT DISENGAGE, RESULTING IN THE RPM GAUGE RACING UP. CAUSE UNKNOWN. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER TO HAVE LIFTGATE BRACKET REPAIRED PER RECALL NOTICE 99V-310, DEALER REFUSED TO REPAIR BRACKET FREE OF CHARGE CLAIMING THAT THE RECALL NOTICE EXPIRED, AS A RESULT CONSUMER HAD THE BRACKET REPLACED BY ANOTHER COMPANY, HOWEVER SINCE THE ORIGINAL BRACKET BROKE THE TAILGATE DOES NOT CLOSE COMPLETELY, THIS IS ALLOWING EXHAUST FUMES TO ENTER THE VEHICLE. Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

ABS: WHEN APPLIED BRAKE PEDAL FELT SPONGY, TRAVELED TO FLOOR, CAUSED BY CORROSION OF BRAKE PAD RETAINER, RETAINER DETACHED FROM BRAKE PAD, BRAKE PADS REPLACED. *AK
WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY VEHICLE STARTED TO ACCELERATE VERY FAST ON ITS OWN. ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS PRESSED DOWN WHILE THE CONSUMER WAS PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO MAKE THE VEHICLE TO STOP. VEHICLE DROVE ABOUT 3 MILES WHEN CONSUMER HAD A CHANCE TO PLACE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL WHICH EVENTUALLY STOPPED VEHICLE. DEALER HAS ADVISED CONSUMER THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL'S CABLE HAD BINDED AND FREID (WEAR AND TEAR) WHICH CAUSED PROBLEM. *AK
