Upon startup, the back up camera will not display when putting the car in reverse. I could not see if any pedestrians were behind me when backing out of a parking spot. This problem has happened 2 times in the last 2 weeks. So far, the camera resumes working after the car has been turned off and restarted. I called the Mercedes dealership service center and they suggested I make a service appointment to repair the camera system. The car is 3 months old. I will make an appointment to have the car serviced soon.

I have had 3 tire failures(blowouts)when I have hit potholes with my 21” wheels and Pirelli P Zero tires. I read on a MBZ Forum for my specific make of car - 2021/2022 MBZ S580 - that many others have experienced the same failures with these Pirelli tires. Those that have Michelin have had none. With such a small area between the road and the rim afforded by super low profile 21” setups, a tire like Pirelli with a weak sidewall will fail when the car strikes a pothole or obstruction. Another owner on the Forum said when he contacted Mercedes, t…

Driving on highway at about 50 mph when the brakes suddenly slammed on and brought car to a sudden, near stop. The stop was so sudden our seatbelts engaged and we thought we were struck in the rear by another car. Electrical module issues that cause battery to drain while vehicle is turned off have been ongoing since I purchased the car in October, 2021. Car has been in for service related to this problem 6 times and for over 60 days.

When in eco mode the vehicle will occasionally shut off at a stop light. The vehicle "jumps" and then all of the warning signals come on followed by the vehicle shutting down. It takes about 20-30 seconds for vehicle to be able to restart again. The dealership had the vehicle for nearly a month and the only solution they came up with was to turn eco mode off every time I start the vehicle. They said their will be a future recall to fix this issue. Also, the vehicle will occasionally move forward on its own and then quickly break. This phantom…

I purchased this car as a certified pre-owned vehicle from Mercedes Benz in December 2024 with 14,000 miles on the odometer. This vehicle has factory 21-inch AMG rims. Since that time, I have had to replace 5 tires on this vehicle, all from Mercedes Benz dealerships. I purchased an additional $2,000 tire insurance policy from Mercedes Benz due to this recurrent issue. Due to the size of this rim, these tires are extremely prone to blowing and flats. With only 490 miles on the odometer I experienced a catastrophic failure of the front passenger-side tire after going over what seemed to be an insignificant pothole. I had 9985 miles on my 2023 Mercedes S580V when the front passenger tire experienced a blowout earlier this year. The tire failed right after I had my first A service which did not show an issue with tires. Today is 10/30/2024 and I have 13978 miles on my vehicle. The driver side front tire Pirelli 255/35-R21/98Y has a bubble on the side wall. I took it to my dealership and they discovered that the rear passenger side Pirelli 285/30-R21/100Y has a bubble as well. I am having both tires replaced today.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Mercedes-Benz S580 equipped with 21-inch wheels has experienced numerous tire blowouts over the course of ownership , too many to count. The blowouts occurred during normal driving on typical roads. Several blowouts caused rim damage and created a dangerous situation, including moments where I nearly lost control of the vehicle. This appears to be a design defect involving the 21-inch wheel and low-profile tire configuration, which seems structurally inadequate for normal road conditions. The failures are recurring and not due to isolated haza…

While driving on the freeway at approximately 40 mph on May 10, the yellow check engine light came on. I was approximately 200 miles into the current tank of gas, I stopped and checked to make sure the gas cap was properly secured. There were no obvious drivability issues. I immediately dropped the car off at Mercedes of Ontario, California, and they were able to confirm the problem, but could not clear the code, or determine the root cause of failure. Ontario Mercedes has now had my car for 6, days and that they are waiting for a M/B factory t…

Loud, screeching sound emanates when brake releases. This malady continues severally. Resting lightly on brake pedal to dry out turning brake rotors, does not help. Eventually, problem disappears until the next wet episode. -Per Mercedes Authorized Dealer, there is no fix; problem is common to Mercedes 223 series. -Risk of collision exists in both modes, Dr…
