DT: TORSION AXLE INCORRECTLY INSTALLED. CONSUMER CALLED THE MANUFACTURER, WHO REPORTED NO PROBLEM. FURTHER INVESTIGATION SHOWED THAT OTHER REPAIRS OF THE TORSION AXLE HAD BEEN DONE ON SEVERAL VEHICLES OF SAME TYPE. THIS CAUSED THE SUPPORT BRACKETS TO BREAK AND BECOME A POTENTIAL CRASH HAZARD. *TT THE CONSUMER IS NOT THE OWNER OF THE RV HE WAS APART OF A TEAM THAT INSPECTED RV'S. *JB

I WAS PULLING A 5TH WHEEL TRAILER, WEIGHING AROUND 13,000LBS. DRIVING ON I-25 AT 65 MPH, THE TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE GENERAL TIRE, MODEL AMERI*550AS ON THE TIRE. THE TIRE DID NOT BLOW OUT. I DID NOT REALIZE THE PROBLEM HAD OCCURRED AND WAS DRIVING ON THE BELT OF THE TIRE FOR SEVERAL MILES. HAD THE TIRE BLEW, THE TRAILER MAY HAVE FLIPPED CAUSING EXTENSIVE VEHICLE DAMAGE AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH. THE TIRE WAS INFLATED TO 75 PSI PRIOR TO DEPARTING ON THE TRIP.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
