Driving west on Interstate 80 in Iowa heading to South Dakota, when smoke started to appear in rear of motor home outside . On Jan 2, 2021, I filed NHTSA complaint #11386115. To date I have heard nothing other than an acknowledgement of receipt of the complaint. I would like to point out that this problem is on-going, increasing in severity and number of occurrences, and can easily be considered a life safety issue. As I’m sure you are aware, vehicles conveying human beings are becoming randomly and unpredictability stranded due to faulty sensors on otherwise properly functioning emission systems. ON TWO OCCASIONS, THE FOOT FELL OFF MY EQUALIZER LEVELING JACK. I'M NOT SURE WHEN IT HAPPENED, BUT IF IT HAPPENED ON THE FREEWAY, THE FOOT COULD DAMAGE MY MOTORHOME, MY TOW CAR, OR HIT A CAR FOLLOWING BEHIND ME, ALL OF WHICH COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I WORK AT A MOTORHOME DEALERSHIP AND WE OFTEN FIND MOTORHOMES OF THIS BRAND MISSING A FOOT OFF THEIR LEVELING JACK. THIS SEEMS TO BE A REOCCURRING PROBLEM.

On 5/23 I started getting a code "SPN3031 FMI9" which says the DEF temperature is rising too fast, no other codes were present in the fault list (the engine was running at the time I grabbed the fault list). Only the engine outline icon was lit. I had only driven 3 miles from my house to fill up the RV with fuel. I turned the engine off and restarted, getting the same code. After driving back home I pulled up the list again and it was the same. On 5/25 I contacted the local repair shop and they took my information. They called back on 5/2…

The Motorhome is equipped with a computer controlled Comfort Drive steering system ( also known as ReAX-C and other names) that is supposed to keep the vehicle going straight at all times with low steering efforts in side winds, pot holes or against the crown of the road. The Comfort Drive is supposed offer consistent steering feel and allow the driver to concentrate on driving with reduced fatigue. This system appears to only be working part of the time - and that is only when driving on a perfectly flat road with little or no wind. On a re…

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
