Owner report 11448468 · 2022-01-22 (January 22, 2022)

The rear brake pads on Polestar 2s (P2) are susceptible to adhering to the rotors, causing a juddering noise from some of the pad breaking off and left stuck on the rotors. This appears to happen in wet climates, after its driven in the rain, after the wheels are cleaned with water, or stored in a humid space. Typical symptoms are: (a) the morning after the pads are exposed to water or excessive humidity, the brakes makes a loud THUD noise when initially moving it out of standstill; (b) it then proceeds with a low-pitched grinding noise coming …

When at red light or stop sign intermittently the vehicle lunges forward on its own 1-3 feet. without the brake or go pedal pressed. Vehicle is driven in OPD creep mode off. Lunges almost like if you popped the clutch on a manual transmission car. I always leave space behind the car in front of me so have not had a crash. However I would be afraid of it doing it with someone walking close in a crosswalk. Vehicle was taken to Polestar service today after it happened to my wife this morning. Owner report 11670065 · 2025-06-29 (June 29, 2025)

My vehicle's rearview camera occasionally fails to activate when I shift the transmission into reverse. Instead of displaying the camera feed, the infotainment system presents a persistent message stating, 'Camera is temporarily unavailable.' This issue significantly impairs my ability to safely maneuver the vehicle in reverse, increasing the risk of collision with objects or pedestrians due to the lack of visual information typically provided by the rearview camera system. This exists after the second recall fix for this issue was performed by…

Lane keeping assistance function consistently steers the vehicle onto freeway exits when used on the freeway. (note, this is in California with exits using CA's normal shoulder line markings) The steering onto the exit happens abruptly, with significant steering authority; rapid assertive driver intervention is required to maintain vehicle in lane. This behavior appeared after the vehicle completed an OTA update to software version P1.8.

On 12/26/2021, I merged onto the I-5 South highway to Irvine, CA, and engaged Pilot Assist. The “speedometer dial” icon turned yellow (as expected), but the “car in front” and “hand hold wheel” icons remained grayed out. I believe this indicated 2 things: (1) the car was still looking for a lead car, and (2) the car was searching for clear lane markings. Everything appeared to be normal at this point as it does take some time to take over the steering. As I approach a slower moving lead car in front of me, I noticed that the car was still a…

The backup camera system frequently malfunctions when in use. The image may flicker black, freeze, or delay longer than 2 seconds after switching to reverse. On some occasions the camera shows as completely unavailable. It happens nearly every day, nearly every drive. As a federally mandated safety device with very specific operating parameters I do believe this component is non-compliant and has become a persistent issue for me and other owners.

Upon putting the vehicle into reverse, the backup camera takes an insurmountably long time to engage and when it does, the image it produces frequently flashes for several seconds before stabilizing, rendering it useless - particularly with pedestrians or vehicles behind the car. Recent OTA updates have exacerbated this problem, which poses a pretty severe safety risk in a car with such limited rear visibility, and after researching the problem online, it's pretty clear that it's an endemic issue to the car and can likely be remedied through so…

Backup camera regularly fails to respond in time when powering on the car. Sometimes takes numerous times to enter in and out of reverse. Sometimes the rear view backup camera reverts to overhead 360 camera view without intervention, making it difficult to see in the rear. Backup camera often turns off and on 3 to 6 times when backing up after first starting the car. If can be off for 5 to 20 seconds when it flashes off and it all happens within a 2min window. The parking camera system freezes and flickers on a fresh startup on a fairly consistent basis, all you have to do is let the car go into a "sleep state" then enter the car and go in to reverse. Without cameras it's difficult to see directly behind the car and around blind spots endangering pedestrians. This occurs at least once a week and I've started documenting the occurrences. According to dealer this is a known issue to Polestar. The dealer did update the software which has not fixed the issue. Polestar also recommended restarting the infotainment system and TCAM which takes several minutes and does not fix the issue. …

A new software update was recently released to fix a previous recall of the backup camera. Ever since that version 5 of the software was released, the display unit computer randomly resets during the drive. During the report, all blind spot, cruise control, lane sensing, sensors, etc are not working and take multiple minutes to turn on and the activate.

The backup camera has frequent delays in activating -- approximately 5 seconds and regularly shows an error message with a black screen stating that the "camera is temporarily unavailable." I'm providing documentation from a November 22nd incident, but it happens more frequently.

The backup camera will not work at all. In fact none of the cameras are working. My firmware/software is up to date. The service center can’t book me until 2 months from now. That’s too much time. It isn’t safe because the rear window is so small. This car was designed to work with cameras. The screen says “Camera is temporarily unavailable.”

Backup camera can fail to start when putting car in reverse. When backup camera does start, it can also suddenly stop during active reversal so that the driver is then reversing with zero visibility. All car audio can stop or suddenly fail to start in the car. This impacts sensors, blind spot warnings, etc. Driver is reliant and conditioned to hearing these sensors for lane keeping, safety, turn signal sounds, etc and without this - driver can dangerously assume there are no issues. Issues have been reproduced and confirmed by dealer, dealer …

Chinese made EV that does not comply with US standards of having a functioning backup camera. Every day my backup camera has been failing with the same error 'Camera is temporary unavailable'. This is even after the latest software update that was supposed to fix the issue.

When reversing the car, the rear view camera will malfunction and there will be a message that says "camera not available." This does not happen every time but it does happen once in a few times, which makes backing up dangerous. Polestar has put out an OTA update to fix this but it still occurs for me. The problem hasn't been seen by a dealer, the police, or insurance, etc. No warning lights or any indications that there is anything wrong.

I was driving my Polestar 2 and approaching a stopped vehicle ahead of me on [XXX] [XXX]. The one-pedal driving function successfully brought me to a complete stop (12:41:33PM). However, 3 seconds after the complete stop, at 12:41:36PM the car suddenly started moving on its own and accelerated towards the car in front of me. Fortunately I was able to brake using the brake pedal to prevent a collision. Dash cam video: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

After the update that should fix the car, it now has several issues. One Pedal Driving doesn't work. When using One Pedal Driving the car should stop when you release the gas. Now the car continues to roll. It is reporting "Brake Failure" and "Collision Detection Failure". Polestar is saying this is normal after the update and it should fix itself in time. Unacceptable, the car has has issues for a year without any updates. Then this is released and makes it work.
