Owner report 11550030 · 2023-10-15 (October 15, 2023)

The parking camera system freezes and flickers on a fresh startup on a fairly consistent basis, all you have to do is let the car go into a "sleep state" then enter the car and go in to reverse. Also, there are false positives from the parking collision system in the rear when going down a sidewalk apron, causing the emergency braking system to trigger. This has happened often enough to the point where I disable the emergency braking system on every startup.

The vehicle was driven to a shopping mart in my locality for less than 10 miles. When we got out of the vehicle it started showing all sorts of errors like Propulsion system failure, Parking Brakes unavailable, Breaking system not available. The car was taken to Polestar Austin and after keeping the vehicle for 15 days they informed me that they can't find the issue hence have only done a SW update. They suspected a DashCam connected to the camera WILL DEFINATELY cause propulsion and brake failure. The EV reached a temperature of about 161F a…

Despite a recall, rear camera does not activate when putting the car into reverse. This poses immense safety risks as the rear of the vehicle is poorly visible from the driver seat and mirrors when backing up. I have previously noted this instance a few months ago after the recall for this issue, and yet the issue is persisting. There are no warnings or indicators of an electrical or other problem. I have not taken this in for servicing for this problem. But this issue is reproducible every time getting into the car and putting it into reverse,…

Over the last 1.5 months, the liftgate system on the vehicle has failed to fully close and latch. The vehicle shows the liftgate as unsecured and the liftgate has play despite being partially latched. Investigation of the vehicle shows that the tailgate damper drive unit wiring harness is designed in a way that the wires pinch and short to ground. This design flaw causes the vehicle to lose communication with the position sensors in the tailgate damper drive unit and prevents the tailgate from closing fully.

Vehicle chassis vibrates noticeably at speeds around 30 mph and 65 mph, which is translated to the steering wheel. The vibration is of a high frequency, almost akin to a sander, and is most prominent under acceleration or deceleration. It's been present since I took delivery of the car in December of 2022 and can be felt on every drive. Polestar can reproduce the problem in other Polestar 2s and claims this vibration is within spec, but it feels like a defective drive shaft, which is quite worrying. There are many reports of this issue across t…

The backup camera system frequently malfunctions when in use. The image may flicker black, freeze, or delay longer than 2 seconds after switching to reverse. On some occasions the camera shows as completely unavailable. It happens nearly every day, nearly every drive. As a federally mandated safety device with very specific operating parameters I do believe this component is non-compliant and has become a persistent issue for me and other owners.

Upon putting the vehicle into reverse, the backup camera takes an insurmountably long time to engage and when it does, the image it produces frequently flashes for several seconds before stabilizing, rendering it useless - particularly with pedestrians or vehicles behind the car. Recent OTA updates have exacerbated this problem, which poses a pretty severe safety risk in a car with such limited rear visibility, and after researching the problem online, it's pretty clear that it's an endemic issue to the car and can likely be remedied through so…

Backup camera regularly fails to respond in time when powering on the car. Sometimes takes numerous times to enter in and out of reverse. Sometimes the rear view backup camera reverts to overhead 360 camera view without intervention, making it difficult to see in the rear. Polestar has made updates to the software via OTA updates that have tried to address this by reducing memory use during car boot up, but it’s very clear that the head units in polestar 2s up until at least my model year MY24 are severely underpowered and unable to properly sw…

I have a Polestar 2 and it has been recalled for an over the air update to correct backup camera failing to activate. The current software version for the computer in the car is 3.6.4. I am writing to notify your agency that the issue is uncorrected despite this “patch” or over the air update and that the rear backup camera still does not activate when switching in to reverse. This is a safety problem because the car has bad visibility when using mirrors and much of the rear of the car can not be viewed with mirrors.

When I put the car in reverse and begin to back up, roughly 20% of the time, the backup camera does not work. Sometimes it blinks on and off. Often, it shows a "Camera temporarily unavailable" message. This prevents me from being able to adequately see cars passing behind me. I was notified of a recent recall for this issue. When reversing, the backup camera often displays "Camera is temporarily unavailable". This prevents me from safely backing up because there is poor visibility directly through the back window. This can easily be reproduced and replicated on any Polestar 2, and happens most frequently on startup of vehicle and backing up. This was already the subject of a recall that Polestar offered a software update for. However, despite the software update, it continues to happen regularly.

The rearview camera is completely unstable and almost unusable. After various software upgrades the problem has got worse not better and Polestar seem to take zero responsibility to fix this.

Polestar 2 software version 4.2.13. While reversing out of a parking spot the rear camera briefly turned on, but after a second, the infotainment system crashed, with the screen shutting off. The infotainment system automatically rebooted after ~1min of driving. This system crash also temporarily disabled rear cross traffic alert and the parking sensors. Backup cameras are a federally mandated safety feature which reduce the risk of collisions when reversing. Without this safety feature, the risk of a collision increases.

Starting in 2022 the car started to "black out" when I drove it. The spedeometer and screen would go completely dark, especially at speeds over 60 MPH I reported this to Polestar in 2023, they incorrectly diagnosed it as a TPMS warning when I brought it to the dealer. I called Polestar back in July 2023, but a nearby dealer was 7 hours away. I brought the car into the dealer March 2024, they had it for several days, didn't detect a problem and sent me home w car. It did it again, I was able to capture this footage on video, they then took the…

Constant camera issues. The rear camera only works half the time and when it does go it, it'll just cut off while driving in reverse. It's completely unreliable and dangerous. New update has affected the cars acceleration. Now when its below a certain degrees outside they changed it so the car can no longer accelerate at its normal speed and instead, barely responds when you hit the gas causing a multiple second delay before the car moves. It's incredibly dangerous and makes it impossible to move out of the way if needed in an emergency. Issue…

I have started to experience sudden acceleration issues. The car, when you are attempting to pull into a parking spot or garage, will seem to accelerate, sensors beeping. I have jumped curbs and even crashed into bikes in my garage. The car has had a slew of issues (engine propulsion, losing power), and I have had it at the dealer 4 times. Polestar stopped communicating with me when I let them know this happened. I have read others online claiming the same thing. I had had others witness this happening

The backup camera never works. There was a recent update that made it much worse. The visibility is terrible out of the back window so the camera is pretty important. It always just says it’s unavailable which is very frustrating. No inspections or warning lights but it seems to be a software issue that many people are experiencing
