Fuel tank develops crack and leaks when filled more than 10 gallons approx 1/2 full. There is a specific point on the tank where it cracks on top. The metal is very thin at this point and possibly with newer Ethanol fuels the tank expands and contracts far more in hot weather? This problem is well documented on Toyota Land Cruiser websites, specifically IH8MUD.com. The website is telling owners to log complaints with NHTSA. I would think leaking gas is a major safety issue along with being an emissions violation. Yes the vehicle is available …

I RECEIVED NOTIFICATION IN JANUARY THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE PASSENGER AIRBAG IN THIS CAR. I HAVE BEEN WAITING OVER 2 MONTHS FOR A REMEDY--IT'S LISTED AS "INTERIM" IN TOYOTA'S SYSTEM APPARENTLY. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER NOT TO ALLOW ANYONE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT UNTIL THE DEFECT IS FIXED. THIS IS A MAJOR DISRUPTION TO MY LIFE. I CAN'T IMAGINE WHY IT IS TAKING SO LONG TO CORRECT A DEFECT WITH SUCH SIGNIFICANT CONSEQUENCES.

Driving on trail ridge road in Estes park. Fuel boiled and gas flowed out of the vehicle around the gas cap. It presents a real fire and environmental risk in addition to causing property damage to the vehicle by potentially damaging the paint with the boiling fuel. This has been present with the 80, 100, 200 series vehicles plus the Toyota Tundra, Lexus GX and Lexus LX. There are a frightening number complaints about th…

Water pump failed at under 60k, but was just over 60k miles when I brought into Toyota Dealer (Rudy Luther, Minnetonka MN). Toyota denied claim and won’t stand behind a water pump failure. This part doesn’t have any maintenance needed per manufacture documentation within the miles I have on vehicle. Further - this is becoming a topic within many forums that Toyota has an issue with water pumps and is fully aware of this. I’d like to see Toyota take care of this issue and pay for this repair.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
