Owner report 10993098 · 2017-06-04 (June 4, 2017)

I PURCHASED THIS VECHILED 10 MONTHS AGO. AT 800 MILES, THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE CRANKSHAFT, THROTTLE BODY AND CAM ADJUSTER WERE ALL REPORTED TO AUDI USA AND REPAIRED OR REPLACED. I WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER THEY WANTED TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. AUDI USA IS SAYING IT WAS ONLY A BRACKET. THE CAR STILL PAUSES AND JERKS WHEN ACCELERATING, AND HAS AN ANNOYINGLY LOUD VIBRATION. I AM NOT CONFIDENT IN THE AUDI BRAND ANYMORE, AND AFTER 10 PREVIOUSLY OWNED AUDI - I AM MOVING ON TO THEIR GERMAN COMPETITOR.

SAFETY RECALL 19N4 (NHTSA 18V229) WAS ISSUED IN JUNE 2018. ATTACHED NOTICE INDICATES THAT VEHICLE SHOULD BE PARKED OUTDOORS AS A PRECAUTION, TO AVOID A FIRE CAUSED BY A SHORT CIRCUIT WITHIN THE ELECTRIC COOLANT PUMP. RECALL REPAIRS ARE NOT ANTICIPATED UNTIL LATE 2018. I DO NOT WANT TO WAIT 4 MONTHS TO GET A REPAIR SINCE THIS IS AN OBVIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. I TALKED TO MY LOCAL SERVICE PERSON AT AUDI DANVERS, MA WHO CONFIRMED THE RECALL REPAIR IS NOT YET AVAILABLE. I ALSO EMAILED AUDI USA BUT HAVE NOT RECEIVED A RESPONSE. WHAT CAN I DO TO GET TH…

Recall history

2 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

17V150000 · Seat Belts:Pretensioner

Reported: 2017-03-08 (March 8, 2017)

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2017 Audi A5 Cabriolet and S5 Cabriolet vehicles. A component within the front, rear, and rear center seat belt retractor pretensioners may detach after the seatbelt retractor pretensioner is deployed in the event of a crash.

Consequence: Although, the seat belt will operate as intended in the event of a crash, the pretensioner component may be a projectile within the vehicle cabin, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy: Audi will notify owners, and dealers will replace the safety belt retractors/pretensioners, free of charge. The recall began on June 28,2017. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Volkswagen's number for the recall is 69O8.

ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHEN STARTING CAR, HAD SOME DIFFICULTY ACCELERATING. CAR TAKEN TO DEALER WITHIN 24 HOURS. DEALER DIAGNOSED TIMING CHAINS, HEAD, TENSIONERS AND TURBO NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. CAR HAS APPROXIMATELY 83000 MILES AND HAS BEEN SERVICED AT CONSHOHOCKEN AUDI SINCE PURCHASE FROM PRESTIGE LEXUS (WITH 7000 MILES). AUDI HAS "OFFERED" AN 75% DISCOUNT ON PARTS BECAUSE I "HAVE BEEN A GOOD CUSTOMER" (EXCEPT THE TURBO WHICH THEY SAY IS NOT A FAULT OF THE ENGINE DEFECT). MY 2011 AUDI A5 2.0T HAS EXPERIENCED LOW COMPRESSION ON PISTON NUMBER 1 WHICH IS A SIGN OF ENGINE FAILURE AND REQUIRES THE ENGINE TO BE REDONE. SINCE THEN I HAVE CHECKED WITH AUDI MECHANICS AND ONLINE REVIEWS AND IT SEEMS LIKE MY MODEL OF AUDI HAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE. THE FACT THAT MANY A5'S HAVE EXPERIENCED ENGINE FAILURES BEGS THE QUESTION OF WHY AUDI HAS NOT RECALLED THIS VEHICLE AND WHY THE ENGINES WERE ALLOWED TO BE RELEASED THAT ARE OBVIOUSLY SUB OPTIMAL AND WEAK!

AUDI SAFETY RECALL 19N4 CONTINUES TO NOT BE AVAILABLE. RECEIVED FIRST NOTICE FOR RECALL IN JUNE 2018. STATES THERE IS A SAFETY ISSUE WITH AFTER RUN COOLANT PUMP. STATES THAT THIS DEFECT MAY CAUSE A FIRE EVEN IF CAR IS NOT TURNED ON AND RECOMMENDS TO PARK THE VEHICLE OUTSIDE AS A PRECAUTION. THIS SOUNDS VERY DANGEROUS. TODAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 2018, THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT THE FIX FOR THE DEFECT IS STILL NOT AVAILABLE AND THERE IS NO DATE. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT DRIVING THIS CAR AND PARKING IT IN OR NEAR THE HOUSE.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
