16V519000 · Air Bags:Frontal:Sensor/Control Module-Inactive

Reported: 2016-07-08 (July 8, 2016)

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2017 Audi Q7 vehicles manufactured August 30, 2015, to May 8, 2016. Due to a software issue within the air bag control module, the frontal air bags may deploy with more force than required in certain crashes. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

Consequence: Air bags that deploy with excessive force may increase the risk of injury.

Remedy: Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will update the air bag control module software, free of charge. The recall began September 2016. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 69O3.

TWO ISSUES: THE SMALL PORTABLE AIR PUMP THAT CAME WITH THE CAR WOULD BLOW THE FUSE TO THE 12V CIGARETTE LIGHTER. AFTER A NEW FUSE IS PUT IN, THIS WOULD HAPPEN ON ABOUT EVERY THIRD OR FOURTH TIME OF USING OF THE PUMP. I HAVE REPLACED ABOUT 5 FUSES ALREADY. THE SECOND ISSUE IS THE SQUEAKING OF THE REAR BRAKES WHEN BACKING UP DURING COLD OR HOT. HOWEVER, IT DOES HAPPEN MORE WHEN COLD/IN THE MORNING. Every time I pressed the start button, a warning would come on the screen “ please put the vehicle in Park. Risk of roll over”. When I pressed the park button, nothing would happen. I got out of the car, but it wouldn’t lock. Unable to start the car for over 2 hours. Finally had to get the car towed to Audi dealership. It’s only one year old SUV. No prior similar problems.

Matrix adaptive headlights are not working. Night driving with increased adoption of LED headlights become challenging due to high glare level and associated temporary vision sensitivity reduction, I was hoping that matrix adaptive headlights will improve this (especially in states like Michigan where extra side light appreciates due to high amount of deers) but they are not working. Also, It puts some pedestrians under extra danger since they could not been seen in low light conditions (there’s a lack of external lighting poles)

Audi Rumble is present on this vehicle, Audi disregards it even after visiting the dealer many times over the issue. Center diff is what is causing it. No issue up to 30k miles, then the rumble started. I am afraid of the drivetrain breaking and locking up during driving which could be catastrophic. Audi does have TSBs on this exact issue from previous model years, this model year doesnt. More complaints should come in eventually for this exact issue.

The light is functional according to the dealer and visual inspection but I was told this is a nuisance error message. The dealer said even though it is working fine, I can pay $4,000 to have the light replaced to make the message go away. Or the other option is to just live with it, which means when it does go out I won't know that it has failed. This seems like a defective part that should be recalled.

It looks that their are many complaints and a class act lawsuit on Audi about this problem but no recalls. It's dangerous and really mind blowing that nothing has been done on this issue.

On intermittent and at unpredictable times while the car is in motion, the vehicle will show a series of two warnings while it appears to turn the steering wheel in the absence of any input from the driver. The first warning light indicates an electromechanical steering failure (indicator light flashes red for approximately one second) and the second states, "Distance warning: currently unavailable. See owner's manual." Unfortunately, there is not a description of a "distance warning" in the owner's manual to refer to for guidance. This h…

I purchased my 2017 Audi Q7 in August 2016. The vehicle is advertised as requiring servicing and oil change every 10,000 miles. Unfortunately, my vehicle has never made it to a 10,000 mile interval without the yellow oil indicator light come on. When I asked the Audi service agent , he states that the car does not typically make it to a 10,000 mile interval because of the large engine. Over the past 5 years the interval to add one quart of oil has been less and less. It has gone from ~9500, 7500, 3000 intervals. On July 22, 2021 I took my car i…

While driving my audi Q7 2017 SUV on highway with my family (spouse and two kids), i got alert on audi dashboard that steering wheel is malfunction and was not able to use power steering, it immediately feels like manual steering. I also lost adaptive cruise control, lane assistance and object identification assistance. I took car to audi dealer and they refused to admit that there was a recall regarding this issue.

OUR Q7 IS LESS THAN A YEAR OLD. I SMELL GAS WHEN I PARK THE CAR EVEN AFTER A SHORT DRIVE OF ABOUT 3 MILES. THE IDI SERVICE HAD SAID THAT THIS WAS RELATED TO VACUUM PUMP AND FIXED IT LAST WEEK. I STILL SMELL GAS AND I AM CONCERNED WITH SAFETY. I SAW PREVIOUS MODELS HAVE BEEN RECALLED DUE TO POTENTIAL FIRE DUE TO GAS LEAK AND I AM WORRIED THAT THIS MIGHT BE THE CASE WITH 2018 MODELS AS WELL.

Drive system malfunction warning while driving on the highway at 75 mph and the car began sputtering, lugging, jerking and had to be manually shifted to get it safely off the highway. If we had been in traffic we would have been rear ended as the car drastically lost speed on the highway. Dealership initial diagnosis was a misfire in cylinder 4. Upon further inspection we were told that a piece of the exhaust manifold had broken off resulting in catastrophic engine failure and we needed to replace the long block at a quote of $32,000.
