Recall history

2 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

97V190005 · Suspension:Rear

Reported: 1997-11-28 (November 28, 1997)

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: TRAVEL AND FOLDING TRAILERS EQUIPPED WITH DEXTER AXLES. THE WHEEL BEARINGS USED IN SOME OF THESE AXLES HAVE A METALLURGICAL DEFECT CAUSING EARLY FAILURE.

Consequence: A WHEEL BEARING FAILURE COULD RESULT IN THE LOSS OF THE WHEEL END FROM THE AXLE INCREASING THE RISK OF A VEHICLE CRASH.

Remedy: DEXTER AXLE IS CONDUCTING THE NOTIFICATION AND REMEDY FOR THIS RECALL. DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE AXLES AND REPLACE THE WHEEL BEARINGS IF NECESSARY.

98V010001 · Fuel System, Other:Storage

Reported: 1998-01-13 (January 13, 1998)

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: TRAVEL TRAILERS EQUIPPED WITH 20 LB. LPG CYLINDERS SUPPLIED BY MANCHESTER TANK. THESE CYLINDERS ARE EQUIPPED WITH AN OVERFILL PROTECTION. THE OVERFILL PROTECTION DEVICE MAY NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY.

Consequence: IF A CYLINDER IS OVERFILLED, AND SOME OF THE GAS LEAKS OUT, THE VAPORS COULD IGNITE IF THERE WAS A SOURCE OF IGNITION PRESENT.

Remedy: MANCHESTER TANK IS PERFORMING THE OWNER NOTIFICATION AND REMEDY CAMPAIGN FOR THIS RECALL. MANCHESTER WILL REPLACE THESE LPG CYLINDERS.

THE 1ST TIRE FAILED (EXPLODED) IN AUGUST 7, 2000, THE 2ND TIRE 7/20/01 & THE 3RD WAS ON 7/21/01. THESE TIRES WERE ON OUR BOAT TRAILER WHEN WE BOUGHT IT IN MARCH, 2000. THE PREVIOUS OWNERS PURCHASED THE BOAT/TRAILER PACKAGE NEW IN THE SUMMER OF 1999 AND THESE WERE THE ORIGINAL TIRES. ALL 3 OF THEM HAD LESS THAN 2,000 MILES ON THEM AT THE TIME THEY FAILED. IN ALL 3 INSTANCES THE SIDE OF THE TIRE "EXPLODED" AND YOU COULD SEE THE BELT (VERY FRAYED) STICKING OUT OF THE LARGE HOLE. FORTUNATELY THIS IS A DOUBLE AXEL TRAILER AND WAS CONTROLABLE AT …

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
