94V182000 · Suspension:Rear:Axle:Non-Powered Axle Assembly
Reported: 1994-09-20 (September 20, 1994)
INSUFFICIENT GREASE WAS APPLIED TO THE TRAILER AXLE HUB INNER BEARING CAUSING THE BEARING TO OVERHEAT DURING TOW OPERATIONS. THE OVERHEATED BEARING CAN SEIZE TO THE AXLE SPINDLE CAUSING THE TRAILER AXLE HUB TO BREAK AT THE REAR SEAL FLANGE.
Consequence: A BROKEN TRAILER AXLE CAUSES LOSS OF TRAILER CONTROL AND RESULTS IN A ACCIDENT.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REMOVE THE TRAILER'S AXLE HUBS AND INSPECT THE INNER BEARINGS FOR SUFFICIENT GREASE AND ALSO INSPECT ALL RELATED AXLE PARTS SUCH AS BEARING RACES AND AXLE SPINDLE FOR WEAR. THE BEARINGS WILL BE REPACKED OR REPLACED IF NECESSARY AND NEW GREASE SEALS WILL BE INSTALLED. NOTE: IF THE VEHICLE IS PRESENTED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND THE REMEDY IS NOT PROVIDED FREE OF CHARGE WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME OR THE REMEDY DOES NOT CORRECT THE DEFECT, PLEASE CONTACT FLEETWOOD FOLDING TRAILER AT 1-800-544-8193. ALSO, CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-800-424-9393.

Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
Equal-age model-year comparison
Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
