08V505000 · Engine And Engine Cooling:Exhaust System:Emission Control

Reported: 2008-09-26 (September 26, 2008)

FLEETWOOD IS RECALLING 1,583 MY 2008-2009 JAMBOREE, JAMBOREE SPORT, JAMBOREE GT, AND TIOGA, TIOGA RANGER, AND TIOGA SL CLASS C MOTOR HOMES BUILT ON A FORD E450 CHASSIS. A SECTION OF HARD PLASTIC EVAPORATIVE EMISSION LINE NEAR THE EVAP SYSTEM CANISTER MAY BE KINKED AND COMPLETELY RESTRICTED. THIS MAY AFFECT A PRESSURE INCREASE IN THE EVAP LINES AND FUEL TANK IN HIGH AMBIENT TEMPERATURES, CAUSING A RELEASE OF EXCESS VAPORS WHEN THE GAS CAP IS REMOVED.

Consequence: UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS, EXCESS VAPORS AND FUEL MAY BE SPRAYED FROM THE FUEL CAP POSSIBLY RESULTING IN PERSONAL INJURY.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACE THE KINKED EVAPORATIVE LINE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING FEBRUARY 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT FLEETWOOD AT 1-800-509-3418.

THE DOMETIC REFRIGERATOR IN OUR 2004 TIOGA CLASS C RV STOPPED WORKING WITH NO WARNING WHILE IT WAS PARKED ON A LEVEL SURFACE. WHEN THE COVER WAS OPENED FOR MAINTENANCE WE DISCOVERED A YELLOWISH DEPOSIT AND EVIDENCE OF LEAKAGE FROM THE BOILER TUBE. WE WERE INFORMED THAT THIS MODEL WAS SUBJECT TO A RECALL DUE TO NUMEROUS REPORTS OF FATIGUE CRACKS AND BAD WELDS IN THE BOILER TUBE OF THE COOLING UNIT. WE WERE NEVER NOTIFIED ABOUT THIS DEFECT AT ANY TIME. AS INSTRUCTED ON THE DOMETIC WEBSITE, WE BROUGHT THE RV TO CAMPING WORLD SERVICE CENTER, WHICH …

WE PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 26' FLEETWOOD TERRA MOTORHOME. ON THE FIRST TRIP IT WAS A BIT HARD TO MANAGE AT SPEEDS ABOVE 55 MPH. I BLAMED INEXPERIENCE AND WEATHER CONDITIONS, ALTHOUGH OTHER RIGS WERE PASSING ME LIKE I WAS STANDING STILL. FOUR HUNDRED MILES TRAVELED. AT 53 MPH EXITING THE FREEWAY AT A REST AREA. THE ENTIRE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL CAME OFF. THIS WAS THE WHEEL DRUM AND BRAKE ASSY. IT LODGED ITSELF UP IN THE COOLING OF THE MOTORHOME. IT ALMOST CRASHED AND NEARLY FLIPPED OVER. A FIRE WAS PUT OUT AT SCENE PRETTY QUICKLY. I WAS TOLD A BAD WHEE…

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
