19V633000 · Seats:Mid/Rear Assembly | Seats:Front Assembly:Recliner

Reported: 2019-08-28 (August 28, 2019)

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2018-2020 F-150 and 2019-2020 F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 Super Duty pickup trucks, and 2018-2019 Ford Explorer, 2019-2020 Expedition, and 2020 Escape vehicles equipped with driver and/or passenger's manual front seat back recliner mechanisms. Also included are certain 2020 Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator vehicles equipped with rear outboard seats and manual seat back recliner mechanisms. The recliner mechanisms may be missing the third pawl required for seat back strength, resulting in a loose seat back. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) numbers 202, "Head Restraints" and 207, "Seating Systems."

Consequence: A seat back with an improperly assembled recliner mechanism may have reduced strength and may not adequately restrain an occupant in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and Ford and Lincoln dealers will inspect the seat structure and replace them, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began October 21, 2019. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19C07.

Specifically, there was excessive rust and oxidation in the following areas: Rear Differential, Rear Axle Casings, Rear Axle Hubs, and portions of the front Frame Rails. This amount of rust/oxidation should not exist in a new vehicle and has the potential to lead to a driving performance/braking incident/accident that could damage the truck and or injure vehicle passengers. It used to only do it at initial start up in the morning and any time it sat for an hour or more , but now it seems to be rattling on every startup. Ford has newly designed cam phasers, but they are not offering to put those in unless I pay for it.

I am writing to provide supplemental information regarding my existing safety complaints (IDs XXXand XXX). This update concerns a documented failure by Ford’s authorized dealer network to perform mandated Customer Satisfaction Programs (CSPs) that directly correlate to the catastrophic powertrain failures I have experienced. The transmission exhibits violent, harsh shifting, sudden and unpredictable deceleration, and most alarmingly, abrupt downshifting from 10th gear to 1st gear while driving at highway speeds. This is not a minor drivability issue , it is a severe safety defect that places my life, my passengers, and other drivers at risk.

Although my VIN was not listed on any data base as a risk of the 10-speed transmission issue, my transmission first faltered while driving on the highway on 26 November 2024 and then again on 9 December 2024. My family and I were merging onto the highway when without warning, the automatic transmission bucked, making a loud thump sound, then it lost power nearly causing a severe accident. After heavy rain storms in Colorado water started pouring through the passenger side floorboard of my vehicle. I pulled off the molding by the doors, the wires were buried in water, then I started getting a powertrain error. I've owned this F150 truck since 2020, purchasing it on Memorial Day. However, every year, I've experienced two to three instances where the car suddenly cuts off in the middle of a traffic light, accompanied by a yellow warning sign on the screen. I suspect it has something to do with the Auto Start-Stop technology. The most recent incident (1 month ago) while I was driving toward a traffic light direction that was turning red. I gradually slowed down until I came to a complete stop. When I lifted my foot off the brake pedal, the car simply s…

Pertaining to the sync 3 malfunctioning as Ford put it "Ford says that an error in the SYNC infotainment system could cause a blank image to be displayed while reversing, or the rear-view image may remain on display even after a driver has stopped reversing." My vehicle is and has been doing this for a very long time. However, my vehicle VIN is not included in the recall. Though it should be s…

After starting my 2020 Ford F150 for the last few months on the dash 2 warnings comes up, Front Camera Malfunction Service Required and Pre Collision Assist Not Available. These come on every time I start my truck. I did go to my local Ford dealer and told them these were coming on and they told me they never heard of that. I did have a mechanic do a scan on the truck and he came up with code 4300-49- AF which he said is an internal electronic failure. I have read that people have been having this same issue with their 2020 Ford F150s. I feel …

As we were headed back to Montana my crash assist starting going off and there was no other cars or objects around. I took it to Helena, Ford when I got back. AFTER 6 WEEKS OF OWNERSHIP AND 1000 MILES OF USAGE, I HAD A FEW EXAMPLES OF POTENTIAL TRANSMISSION ISSUES. FIRST I HAD A COUPLE OF EXAMPLES OF CLUNKS WHEN BEGINNING TO DRIVE IMMEDIATELY AFTER START UP. A COUPLE DAYS AGO I HAD THE WORST EXPERIENCE YET. AFTER PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT TO WAIT FOR A CURBSIDE PICKUP, I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES. UPON RESTART, I SHIFTED INTO DRIVE AND GAVE A LITTLE GAS AS I PULLED AWAY FROM SPOT GOING FORWARD. THERE WAS A LOUD CLUNK AND THE TRUCK JERKED BEFORE DRIVING NORMALLY. EVEN MY WIFE NOTICED…

Transmission Shift Concern: While driving in town at low speeds and on the highway at posted speeds of 70 or 75mph, and even at take off from a complete stop, I am experiencing issues with how my 2020 F150 10spd transmission shifts. At times, during all of the above instances, shifting can be very rough and noisy, can be delayed causing delayed acceleration, and even when I start the truck, I sometimes here a clunk and the truck may even slightly lurch forward. **I have had two instances now of my truck hesitating in the middle of a highway at…

2020 F-150 Lariat w/ 10 Speed Transmission - 10,600 miles. Experiencing extremely hard downshifting, erratic rough shifting when in traffic. In normal traffic conditions on the highway, traveling 60mph, the truck downshifted from 8th to 7th, causing an extremely loud bang and jerk. This has began to be a regular occurance. These transmissions have serious issues with shifting. Ford needs to find a fix. My over $60,000.00 truck drives rougher than my riding lawnmower.

OIL CONSUMPTION ON THE 5.0 LITER V8 ENGINE. THE ENGINE IS CONSUMING OIL WITHOUT EVIDENCE OF AN OIL LEAK. FORD HAS A TSB FOR THIS 19-2365 WHICH COVERS YEAR MODEL 2018-2020. THERE ARE OTHER TSBS FOR OLDER YEAR MODELS WITH THIS SAME ENGINE. FORD SAYS LESS THAN 1 QUART OF OIL CONSUMED IN 3000 MILES OR LESS IS NORMAL. THEIR FIX IS A LONGER AND WIDER DIP STICK AND A SOFTWARE UPDATE. THIS DOES NOT FIX THE OIL CONSUMPTION. THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE DESIGN OF THE ENGINE BLOCK WITHIN THE CYLINDERS.
