I WAS CHECKING FOR RECALLS ON MY 1994 FORD RANGER AND WAS SURPRISED AT HOW MANY RECALLS. THE REASON BEING THAT, MY FAMILY HAS OWNED THIS VEHICLE SINCE FEBRUARY 1994, WE'VE ONLY RECEIVED THE FIRESTONE RECALL NOTICE. IRONICALLY, I HAVE HAD AND STILL HAVE SOME OF THE LISTED COMPONENTS THAT WERE RECALLED AS WELL AS AS SOME UNLISTED COMPONENTS SINCE 1996, THESE PROBLEMS HAVE COST MY FAMILY ANY WHERE BETWEEN $1000.00 - $2000.00, EVERY YEAR JUST IN REPAIRS ALONE. 4 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

94V111001 · Fuel System, Gasoline:Delivery:Hoses, Lines/Piping, And Fittings

Reported: 1994-06-13 (June 13, 1994)

THE FRONT FUEL LINES HAVE A SECTION OF FLEXIBLE HOSE THAT IS SUSCEPTIBLE TO CRACKING WHICH CAN ALLOW FUEL LEAKAGE.

Consequence: LEAKING FUEL CAN RESULT IN A FIRE WHEN EXPOSED TO A SOURCE OF IGNITION.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACE THE FRONT FUEL LINE ASSEMBLY.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
94V169001 · Parking Brake:Conventional

Reported: 1994-09-07 (September 7, 1994)

THE PARKING BRAKE CONTROL SELF-ADJUST PAWL DOES NOT LINE UP PROPERLY WITH THE SELF-ADJUST RACHET CAUSING THE PAWL TO SLIP OVER ONE OR MORE TEETH IN THE RACHET.

Consequence: WHEN THE ABOVE OCCURS, IT CAN RESULT IN PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM INEFFECTIVENESS. THE PARKING BRAKE WILL NOT HOLD THE VEHICLE, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ROLL FREELY, IF THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT LEFT IN GEAR.

Remedy: A WEDGE WILL BE INSTALLED WHICH WILL SERVE TO LOCK THE PARKING BRAKE SELF-ADJUST MECHANISM PAWL INTO ENGAGEMENT WITH THE RACHET. ALSO, OWNERS WILL BE ADVISED TO RELEASE AND REAPPLY THE PARKING BRAKE WHENEVER TOOTH SKIP OCCURS AND WILL BE REMINDED TO ALWAYS TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND LEAVE THE VEHICLE IN GEAR WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PARKED.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
95V231001 · Vehicle Speed Control

Reported: 1995-12-05 (December 5, 1995)

DURING EXTREME COLD, NORTHERN CLIMATE WINTER CONDITIONS, ICE CAN FORM IN THE THROTTLE BODY OF THE ENGINE CAUSING THE THROTTLE PLATE TO REMAIN IN THE HIGHWAY CRUISING POSITION AFTER THE ACCELERATOR IS RELEASED OR THE SPEED CONTROL IS DEACTIVATED.

Consequence: THE VEHICLE STOPPING DISTANCES CAN BE INCREASED POSSIBLY RESULTING IN AN ACCIDENT.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE AIR INTAKE DUCT AND VALVE ASSEMBLY WITH REVISED UNITS.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
96V024001 · Service Brakes, Hydraulic:Power Assist:Hydraulic

Reported: 1996-02-05 (February 5, 1996)

THE STUDS WHICH ATTACH THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE POWER BRAKE VACUUM BOOSTER ASSEMBLY CAN DEVELOP STRESS CORROSION CRACKING AFTER BEING OPERATED FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME IN THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA LOCATION.

Consequence: IF A CRACK OCCURS, IT COULD RESULT IN ONE OR BOTH STUDS FRACTURING. THE MASTER CYLINDER COULD THEN SEPARATE FROM THE VACUUM BOOSTER, WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED, PREVENTING THE SERVICE BRAKES FROM ACTIVATING INCREASING THE RISK OF A VEHICLE ACCIDENT.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE POWER BRAKE VACUUM BOOSTER ASSEMBLY.

There used to be no sufficient clearance between the drivers knee airbag and the brake pedal. I wear steel toe boots for work and my foot just barely fits between the brake pedal and the airbag box. Several times it’s gotten hung up and I had trouble getting to the brake. In a panic situation the could be disastrous. I’ve checked in other model trucks and there is plenty of clearance.

As I was researching camper shells and truck racks I found that these common items cannot be installed without first installing a load bed reinforcement bracket kit to reinforce the truck bed to the bed side rails. Apparently, nothing can be attached to the side rail which weights more that 88 lbs or the truck bed could separate from the side rails. This is an design/engineering shortcoming from Ford as these are common after market add-ons for mid-sized trucks. Also, Ford is asking customers to pa…

2024 Ford Ranger Trucks made in Michigan between January 4, 2024 to July 15, 2024 do not include the load box reinforcement bracket. Without this bracket installed, if the owner were to place more than 88lbs onto one or both bed side rails the bed could crack, warp, bend, or break. If operators of this vehicle are not aware and do load the bed side rails over 88lbs, this could pose a safety issue to the driver or other drivers on the road around the vehicle. Ford has not notified all owners of affected vehicles, and in my case I found out my…

HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC MENTIONED THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRING ON OTHER RANGERS HE HAS FIXED. I FOUND (ONLINE) OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT RANGER TRANSMISSIONS. DUE TO THE FAULTY PLUGS, A GRADUAL LEAK OCCURS, UNOTICABLE TO THE AVERAGE PERSON. THIS …

ON 6/6/00, WHILE DRIVING HOME WITH 2 CARPOOL PASSENGERS THE LEFT REAR TIRE DISINTEGRATED AT 70 MPH IN 105 DEGREE HEAT. THE FIRST INDICATION THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG WAS AN EXTREMELY VIOLENT THUMPING FROM THE REAR. I THOUGHT AT FIRST THAT THE DRIVELINE BROKE AND WAS SMASHING THE PAVEMENT, BUT THEN, AFTER NO MORE THAN A SECOND, THE NOISE STOPPED AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS ALMOST WRENCHED FROM MY HANDS AS THE TRUCK LURCHED SEVERELY TO THE LEFT, HURTLING US TOWARDS THE BUSHES THAT ARE THE ONLY SEPARATION FROM ONCOMING TRAFFIC ON THAT STRETCH OF HW…

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT NIGHT, APROXIMATELY 75 MPH. WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN, I FELT A JERK, AND THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF CONTROL. I HAVE HAD FLAT TIRES IN THE PAST, AND THIS WAS A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FEEL. MY STEERING WAS ALMOST INOP, AND BREAKING WAS ALMOST NON EXISTANT. I ONLY THANK GOD FOR LOOKING DOWN ON ME AT THAT MOMENT. AFTER NEARLY CRASHING, I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT OVER TWO LANES AND FINALLY COME TO A STOP. WHEN I INSPECTED THE TIRE, I HAD FOUND IT COMPLETELY SEPERATED IN ONE WHOLE PIECE. AFTER REMOVING THE TIRE, I HAD TO …

I WAS TOLD BY A MECHANIC AND A POSTINGS ON A FORD RANGER WEB SITE THAT RANGERS HAVE A BAD HABIT OF COLLECTING LEAVES AND OTHER SMALL DEBRIS IN THE FAN COMPARTMENT. THE MECHANIC WHO CLEANED THE COMPARTMENT OUT SAVED A LEAF AND IT SHOWED SINGE MARKS (PARTIALLY BURNT). I WAS TOLD THAT THE BEST WAY TO NOT LET THE BUILD UP GET SO BAD IS TO CLEAN IT OUT AS SOON AS THE WHIRRING NOISE STARTS WHEN YOU TURN ON THE FAN/AIR CONDITIONING. THE BUILD UP OF DEBRIS IN SUCH A SMALL COMPARTMENT CAUSES THE DEBRIS TO BECOME VERY DRY AND COULD CAUSE A FIRE. AL…
