Owner report 11589088 · 2024-05-16 (May 16, 2024)

Ford has issued recall 24V226 for apparent tire rub on the Transit Trail package almost two months ago and has since given no information on timeline for this recall. This issue seems to be contingent on a "perfect storm" of variables and therefore seems to pose much less of a safety risk than stated. Many owners online report no tire rub even during aggressive offroad driving. Regardless, the agreed upon preventative fix is very well documented within the Transit community and has been performed by countless van owners in the past, myself incl…

Owner report 11597370 · 2024-06-28 (June 28, 2024)

We are now 3 months into Ford recall 24S21/24V226 for the Transit Trail. No communication has been received beyond the initial notice in March and no timeline has been given. As seen in forums online, many buyers, myself included, sit in the dark while our vans rot away on the dealers lot with no end in sight. Ford needs to at least give us a timeline so buyers can make an informed decision on proceeding to wait, or back out of their purchases (if possible).

Owner report 11600975 · 2024-07-10 (July 10, 2024)

Ford is taking too long to remedy this recall. And also their inference that there may be smaller tires put on the vehicle materially changes the vehicle that I purchased. Based on information at Large It is believed that there are remedies that can be deployed without reducing the tire size. Many are awaiting their decisions so they can move forward with their vehicles.

Recall history

10 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

24V102000 · Power Train:Driveline:Driveshaft

Reported: 2024-02-09 (February 9, 2024)

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2023-2024 Ford Transit vehicles. An inadequate amount of rear axle lubricant may cause rear axle tail bearing damage and seizure, which can result in wheel lock-up or driveshaft separation.

Consequence: Wheel lock-up or driveshaft separation can result in a loss of drive power. A disconnected driveshaft can also result in a roll away when the vehicle is in park without the parking brake applied. Any of these scenarios can increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect the rear axle, and replace the axle bearings or axle assembly as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 4, 2024. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 24S05.

Consequence: Damaged tires may experience a sudden loss of air pressure or tread separation, causing a loss of vehicle control and increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will replace the tires, tire placard, and certification label, and also recalibrate the vehicle, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on March 26, 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 24S21.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2023-2024 Transit vehicles equipped with a Transit Trail package. The electronic power assist steering (EPAS) ground eyelet joint may experience corrosion, which can result in a loss of power steering assist.

Consequence: A loss of power steering assist can increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will install a new EPAS ground pigtail kit, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on January 10, 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 24S46.

24V805000 · Power Train:Axle Assembly:Axle Shaft

Reported: 2024-10-25 (October 25, 2024)

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2023-2024 Ford Transit vehicles previously repaired under recall number 24V-102. Incorrect bolts may have been used to attach the rear axle shaft, which can lead to the rear wheel locking up or separating from the axle.

Consequence: Rear wheel lock-up or separation of the wheel from the axle shaft can result in loss of vehicle control or loss of drive power. In addition, the vehicle may roll in park if the parking brake is not applied. Any of these scenarios can increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect the rear axle shaft bolts, replace incorrect bolts as necessary, and fill the differential fluid if needed, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 13, 2024. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 24S67.

A software error may cause the rearview camera image to delay, freeze, or not display when the vehicle is in reverse.

Consequence: A frozen or missing rearview camera image can reduce the driver's view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: The accessory protocol interface module (APIM) software will be updated by a dealer or through an over-the-air update, free of charge. This will be a phased campaign, with the remedy becoming available in different phases based on model and model years. SOMETIMES WE WILL GO AHEAD AND PULL ON OUT INTO TRAFFIC AND ACCELERATE TO GET UP TO SPEED AND THE VAN WILL BASICALLY FEEL LIKE IT'S STUTTERING/ HESITATING AND WE GIVE IT FURTHER THROTTLE WITH THE GAS PEDDLE, THEN IT WILL FINALLY ENGAGE AND SEEMS TO DROP DOWN SEVERAL GEARS AND SLAM/THRUST FORWARD. I took my vehicle on for am oil change and the mechanic brought to my attention that the front subframe of the vehicle had serious rot and rust. This lower subframe ties the front control arms together and other structural components, which is concerning with how fast this component has degraded. When researching this online, this appears to be a common issue on 2015 and later Transit vans, to the point that an investigation was started towards a class action lawsuit. My vehicle is only 8 years and has 95,000 miles, quite young for this serio…

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
