Owner report 11474800 · 2022-07-19 (July 19, 2022)

On or about May 2022, and after on 8,000 miles driven, noticed severe "chunking", or tread peeling, on both front tires of my 2020 Genesis G70 purchased October 2020 from Genesis Puerto Rico, located at Plaza Las Americas, San Juan, Puerto Rico. The tread on both tires was coming apart to the point where you could see the metal underneath the treads. Driving this vehicle at high speeds without noticing the defect could have resulted in a blown tire and a potentially serious accident. By the time I noticed the issue, it was already at a relative…

Both Michelin 225/40 ZR 19 Pilot Sport 4S front tires had severe "chunking", or tread peeling, on them after only 8,000 miles. Atlantic Tire (Bayamon, Puerto Rico), the sole distributor and service center of Michelin in Puerto Rico, informed me that approximately 30 other Genesis G70's had recently made warranty claims regarding the front tires with severe "chunking". They informed me not to drive the vehicle until the tires are replaced.

The headlight assembly is not sealed properly. I had to have the passenger side headlight assembly replaced due to condensation inside of the assembly which can lead to the headlight shorting out. This was replaced by Lee Hyundai in Fayetteville, NC under the warranty. The driver side headlight assembly is now experiencing the same issue and it is set to be replaced again under warranty by Lee Hyundai. After some research online, I have heard from a number of other people who own this same model and year who have replicated experiences with th…

AT AROUND 8:45 A.M. ON JAN. 19, 2020, I LEFT MY HOUSE, DROVE TO THE ENTRANCE OF THE SUBDIVISION, AND TURNED LEFT ONTO THE CITY STREET. BECAUSE OF THE BAD WEATHER IN EARLIER HOURS, I KNEW THAT THE ROAD WAS RATHER ICY. SO I WAS EXTRA CAUTIOUS AND ESTIMATE MY SPEED WAS AROUND 25 MPH (POSTED SPEED LIMIT IS 40 MPH). JUST ABOUT 0.1 MILE FROM ENTERING THE CITY STREET, I SAW THAT THE STREET LIGHT ABOUT 100 YARDS AHEAD OF ME WAS RED. I TURNED MY SIGNAL TO GO INTO THE RIGHT LANE (STREET HAD BECOME 2 LANES VS ONE LANE AT THAT POINT) WHILE STARTING TO …

Summary of Reported Behaviors Lurching: Commonly reported, often deemed a software/adaptive issue. Brake Issues: Commonly reported, often attributed to pad-to-rotor deposits, or in some cases, the recalled ABS module. I started my car in my work parking lot. When I put into Drive the car lurched forward aggressively. I immediately applied the brakes and they pulsated but did not stop the car. My car continued moving forward across the parking lot and right over a large railroad tie. I am very afraid of driving the car. If someone were coming…

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
