Recall history

3 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

15V666000 · Air Bags:Side/Window

Reported: 2015-10-16 (October 16, 2015)

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2015 Buick LaCrosse, Cadillac XTS, Chevrolet Camaro, Equinox, Malibu, and GMC Terrain vehicles. The affected vehicles have front seat-mounted side impact air bags whose inflator may rupture upon its deployment.

Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of one or both of the side impact air bags, the air bag's inflator may rupture and the air bag may not properly inflate. The rupture could cause metal fragments to strike the vehicle occupants, potentially resulting in serious injury or death. Additionally, if the air bag does not properly inflate, the driver or passenger is at an increased risk of injury.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the side impact air bag modules, free of charge. The recall began on October 19, 2015. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 01320.

22V137000 · Exterior Lighting:Headlights

Reported: 2022-03-08 (March 8, 2022)

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2010-2017 GMC Terrain vehicles. A reflection caused by the headlight housings may illuminate areas above the vehicle and outside of the driver's view with excessively bright light. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

Consequence: The bright reflection may cause a glare for other drivers, reducing their visibility and increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will install headlamp appliques, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 8, 2022. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N222363740.

22V165000 · Visibility:Windshield Wiper/Washer:Motor

Reported: 2022-03-17 (March 17, 2022)

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2014-2015 Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain vehicles. The ball joints in the windshield wiper module may corrode, causing one or both windshield wipers to fail.

Consequence: Inoperative windshield wipers can reduce visibility in certain driving conditions, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect the wiper module, and repair or replace it as necessary, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters informing owners of the safety risk were mailed on April 21, 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed on October 25, 2022. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 and GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N212352530.

There is a well known piston ring gasket issue with various GMC Terrain model years. GMC had recalled some for the engine defect but not all years with the affected engine. The 24L Eco tec engine is faulty. The motor uses excessive amounts of oil between oil changes and all kinds of systems are affected by carbon buildup. The engines run rough and stall out WHILE DRIVING. GMC refuses to recall all of the vehicles with this problem and that includes my 2015 model year GMC Terrain with the 24L engine. This would cost me thousands to fix myself. …

Rear lift gate acted abnormally, when I was parked,y son opened the lift gate using the normal door handle button, it raised, but as he was loading it lowered onto him. The biggest danger to my life was that I could not see so I had to keep pulling on side streets to wipe the windshield so I could make it home in the dark and pouring rain. When the bluetooth stopped connecting I had t…

In October 2021 I took my car to have brake pads replaced, oil and filter change, and tire rotation. The day before the appointment the engine light came on. I parked the vehicle and waited for my appointment. The mechanic there told me there was not a drop of oil registering on the dipstick.... very odd considering I had the oil changed regularly. The appointment was completed and the engine light reset. The next day the engine light came back on and the code it was giving was for a Timing Control Solenoid, so I purchased the parts and took it…

I'VE ATTACHED MY FINAL REPAIR NOTICE TO GM AND IT HAS ALL OF THE DETAILS. I HAVE SINCE TAKEN MY CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE FINAL REPAIR DONE. THEY STILL SAY NOTHING IS WRONG WITH IT. I AM TERRIFIED TO DRIVE MY CAR. I ASKED GM TO TAKE THE CAR BACK AND THEY SAY THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING AT ALL TO HELP ME. THE TRANSMISSION IS JERKY AND THE BRAKES BARELY WORK. PLEASE INVESTIGATE. ITS LIKE GM WOULD LIKE TO WAIT UNTIL THERE IS A HUGE ACCIDENT AND LOSS OF LIFE BEFORE DOING ANYTHING.

I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE FROM A DEALER IN JUNE 2018, AND ABOUT A MONTH OF PURCHASING IT MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN HESITATING IN ACCELERATION, AT FIRST I DIDN'T THINK ANYTHING OF IT, BUT IT STARTED GETTING WORSE. TWO DAYS AGO WHEN I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE IN THE DOWNTOWN AREA (CITY STREETS), IT WAS BUCKING A LOT. WHEN I GOT TO MY DESTINATION AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, I PUT IT IN REVERSE AND PROCEEDED TO DRIVE BACK BUT THE CAR SHUDDERED AND THEN SHUT OFF COMPLETELY AND THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP LIGHT CAME ON (BUT IT DIDN'T STAY ON LONG). TODAY AS I…

SMELT SOMETHING BURNING WHILE DRIVING. CAR STARTED BUCKING AND JERKING. I PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT AND NOTICED A PUDDLE OF OIL LEAKING OUT UNDERNEATH MY CAR. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR ANY NOTIFICATION THAT ANYTHING WAS WRONG. HAD IT TOWED TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME PVC FROZE UP AND BLEW OUT REAR MAIN SEAL. THIS IS THE 2ND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO US THIS YEAR. WE OWN ANOTHER GMC (2013 EQUINOX) AND THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED 2 WEEKS EARLIER WITH IT. FRUSTRATING THAT GMC IS AWARE OF THIS DEFECT WITH THEIR ENGINES AND NOT WILLING TO …

I WAS DRIVING ON RT 1 SOUTH IN A RAIN STORM AT NIGHT, DRIVING ABOUT 50 MPH, PUT THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ON FULL AND THE WIPERS COMPLETELY STOPPED. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE INTO THE RIGHT LANE AND PULL INTO A GAS STATION. I WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE WIPERS BUT THE WIPERS WOULD NOT START WORKING. I COULD NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE AS I COULD NOT SEE IN THE RAIN AND NEEDED TO HAVE ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. AAA TOWED MY TERRAIN TO THE COLEMAN'S DEALERSHIP IN LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ AS AAA SAID IT WAS A SAFELY ISSUE SO THEY COULD NOT TOW TO A RESIDENTIAL ADDRESS. I …

WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN AT THE BOTTOM OF A FREEWAY OFFRAMP THE KEYS ON THE KEYRING ATTACHED TO THE KEY IN THE IGNITION GOT STUCK IN THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS BRIEFLY PREVENTED ME FROM EXITING THE TURN, AND THEN WHEN THE KEYS BROKE FREE THE CAR HAD TURNED ITSELF OFF!! I HAD NO POWER STEERING, NO POWER BREAKS AND NO HEADLIGHTS. I WAS ON A SLIGHT DOWNGRADE AND WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE NEXT BLOCK WHERE I TURNED RIGHT OUT OF TRAFFIC BEFORE COMING TO A FULL STOP. I WAS THEN ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR AFTER PUTTING INTO NEUTRAL (OR PARK, DON'T REMEMBER)…
