I OWN A 2007 HARLEY DAVIDSON FXST SOFTAIL MOTORCYCLE. THE MOTORCYCLE WAS IN MY POSSESSION FOR TEN MONTHS WHEN I NOTICED A DRY ROT ON THE SIDE WALL OF THE FRONT TIRE. THE REAR TIRE IS IN GREAT CONDITION, WITH NO DRY ROT AT ALL. I KEEP MY MOTORCYCLE SERVICED AND MAINTAINED CONTINUOUSLY. THE TIRE PRESSURE WAS NEVER LOW, OR DAMAGED IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM. I HAVE BEEN AN AVID RIDER AND OWNER OF MANY MOTORCYCLES. I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS ISSUE WITH A MOTORCYCLE TIRE ON A NEW MOTORCYCLE BEFORE. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP, NEW RIVER HARLEY DAVIDSON AND TH…
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 HARLEY DAVIDSON FXSBSE BREAKOUT MOTORCYCLE (N/A). THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE, THE MOTORCYCLE SUDDENLY STALLED. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE MOTORCYCLE HAD ALSO EXPERIENCED HESITATION AND DECELERATION ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE MOTORCYCLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE DEFECT WAS CAUSED BY BUFFING COMPOUND RESIDUE INSIDE THE FUEL TANK. THE MOTORCYCLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE FAILURE MILEA…
CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES WERE BUILT WITH A CONDITION THAT PERMITS THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE TO CONTACT A WELD BEAD ON THE OIL TANK. THIS MAY CAUSE THE WELD BEAD TO ABRADE THROUGH THE INSULATION ON THE CABLE AND CAUSE AN ELECTRICAL SHORT FROM THE BATTERY THROUGH THE OIL TANK AND OIL LINES.
Consequence: THIS COULD LEAD TO AN OIL LEAK AND/OR POSSIBLE FIRE, WHICH COULD RESULT IN INJURY OR DEATH TO THE RIDER.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A BATTERY CADDY THAT WILL PROTECT THE CABLE AND ENSURE PROPER CABLE ROUTING. THIS RECALL BEGAN ON MAY 4, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HARLEY-DAVIDSON AT 1-414-342-4080.

Started bike, rode down street engine was on, came back called a service person at a dealership. Went through codes, cleared code. Next day rode to work, left work and stopped to get haircut. When leaving bike was dead wouldn't even turn over. Tried to remember code resetting, tried to start, started but engine xame on again. Got it home called same service guy. Cleared codes. There were different codes. Had bike towed to that dealership. Still trying to figure out problem, he said that this would be recorded with Harley-Davidson. Called agai…

Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
Equal-age model-year comparison

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
