IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER CAME OUT AND STUCK TO KEY. ALWAYS TREATED GENTLY AND CAREFULLY. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM BECAUSE OF POOR OUTSOURCING, DEALERS DON'T CARE. HARLEY STILL WON'T ACCEPT EMAIL ON THEIR OWN WEBSITE. THIS FACT MAKES IT QUITE CLEAR THEY WANT NO EVIDENCE OF CORRESPONDENCE REGARDING CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS. IT'S 2015...YOU'D THINK THEY WOULD ACTUALLY RECEIVE EMAIL FROM PEOPLE BY NOW? *TR

I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE WITH 1835 MILES ON THE ODOMETER AND ABOUT A WEEK LATER I NOTICED AN AUDIBLE "CLUNK" WHEN STARTING THE ENGINE. I INVESTIGATED THE PROBLEM ONLINE AND FOUND THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AMONGST HARLEY DAVIDSONS WITH THE 96 CID ENGINE. THE SOUND IS THE MECHANICS WITHIN THE ENGINE INTERLOCKING VIOLENTLY WHICH CAN RESULT IN CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. THE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM IS THE PURCHASE OF AN UPGRADED COMPENSATOR WHICH TOTAL SEVERAL HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS. PRESENTLY THERE IS NO RECALL IN PLACE. *TR

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
