Random engine stalls and engine dying under acceleration. Most often happens when leaving from a stop at intersections. The engine either immediately dying out before any forward movement or dying out a second later leaving me in a hazardous position in the middle of the intersection. I bought the bike new June 22, 2021 and to date May 26, 2022 this stall has occurred 8 times in 5440 miles; the first stall occurred at 1850 miles 2 months new. Owner report 11473859 · 2022-07-14 (July 14, 2022)

Have experienced myself that this motorcycle, which utilizes a DCT clutchless system for gear changes, is prone to stalls when taking off from a stop at low throttle inputs. A benefit of the DCT system is it's purported not to stall. This is very different than the fuel tank / filter issue which resulted in a recall of 2020 models, that affected bikes at high speed. I have spoken to several owners of the same bike all experienced the same. We discuss frequently on an owner's forum. An online poll shows 45% of owners have experienced it. It …

Recall history

2 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

24V882000 · Electrical System:Software | Fuel System, Gasoline:Fuel Injection System

Reported: 2024-11-21 (November 21, 2024)

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2022 and 2024-2025 CRF1100 Africa Twin motorcycles. A software error in the fuel injection electronic control unit (FI-ECU) may cause an engine stall or a loss of power when the Wheelie Control feature is activated.

Consequence: An engine stall or loss of power can increase the risk of a crash or injury.

Remedy: Dealers will reprogram the FI-ECU software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 15, 2025. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-866-784-1870. Honda's number for this recall is KR1.

25V583000 · Electrical System:Motorcycle Handlebar Switch Pod Left/Right

Reported: 2025-09-05 (September 5, 2025)

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2020-2022 and 2024-2025 CRF1100 Africa Twin motorcycles. The left handlebar switch harness may corrode due to oxidation, resulting in the loss of horn function or the ability to switch the headlight from low beam to high beam. As such, these motorcycles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

Consequence: The inability to use the horn or switch the headlight from low beam to high beam can increase the risk of a crash or injury.

Remedy: Dealers will replace the left handlebar switch assembly, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed January 20, 2026. Owners may contact Honda's customer service at 1-866-784-1870. Honda's number for this recall is KS8. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning September 12, 2025.

I own a 2025 Honda Africa Twin 1100 DCT with approximately 7,300 miles. The rear brake pads became completely worn down to the metal pad-wear indicator clips. Today, I attempted to turn left onto Indiana State Highway 12 and as I was turning my motorcycle lost all throttle. The result of losing throttle meant I fell over in the middle of the highway. After reaching 6mph, the throttle sputtered and the traction control light flashed. Thankfully, the drivers on the highway were paying attention. If they weren’t, I could have easily died because cars travel at speeds of 50-60mph, even though the speed limit is 45mph. This is not the first time I have had this issue. Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
