There was ~1/4" of slush on the roof of the EV9 when starting an in-town trip. On a back road when decelerating, most of the slush slid forward and down the windshield. It was very wet but frozen enough to create a lump under the wipers. It seems the EV9's wipers will completely stop if they are unable to fully return to their start position, and some of the ice was preventing them from doing that, and so they refused to continue wiping at all. I tried turning the wipers on/off and changing speed, but nothing would get them running again. Than…

The wipers stopped working completely when some slush slid down my windshield and got piled up at the base of the windshield where the wipers sit. I had to pull over and scoop out the slush before they would resume working. This was super dangerous as not having the wipers work it was hard to see to safely operate my car.

While using adaptive cruise control on the highway, my car almost rear ended the car in front of me when it surged ahead around a slight curve in the road. I was travelling approximately 5mph below the set cruise speed due to the traffic ahead. It appears that my vehicle lost radar sight of the car in front and tried to get back up to the set speed. This has happened on multiple occasions now.

Beginning sometime after purchase, our 2024 Kia EV9 (VIN: [XXX]) developed a recurring failure of the multimedia display system (head unit). The screen goes completely dark after approximately 5 minutes of drive time and only restores after a full vehicle restart. This failure occurred approximately 10 to 14 times before we brought the vehicle in for service. Critically, when the multimedia screen goes dark, the rearview camera display is also rendered completely unavailable. As the rearview camera is federally mandated safety equipment under …

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

No selected model years have a complete observation window. Choose an eligible year or a shorter window.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.

I leased my EV9, GT from Northstar KIA, NY. I got the delivery of EV9 GT on 3/29/2024. I started to notice that the car was not charging properly. After the whole night of charging it was charged like 3-4% at most. on the 3rd-4th day, the car started to make sudden abnormal sounds. I called the salesperson and dealership regarding the charging, and other issues, and told me to take it to the service center. I turned on the car and the main gauge cluster screen was black - I was not able to see speed, use turn signals, use advance driver systems, etc. Completely unsafe to drive.

The screen that shows speed, miles remaining, etc. went black on a long trip. All of the automated cruise control, lane keeping, etc. are also housed in that screen. The blinkers would not work, I had no idea how fast I was going at any time which is unsafe. I could not see how much range is left on the vehicle which I imagine could lead the car just dying while driving or going into the turtle mode with too low of a charge. Also, the adaptive cruise control was not working properly and at one point when a car in front of me moved over out of m…

When in Highway Drive Assist mode, where the system controls the speed and lane keep and lane change, the system can disengage without any visual or audio warning. This causes dangerous scenarios where the driver believes the car is in control but it is not.

The contact owns a 2014 Kia EV9. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the Lane Keep Assist failed, and the vehicle started pulling to the outside of the intended lane. There were no warning lights illuminated. The dealer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted; however, no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was unknown.

The automatic high-beam system in my 2024 EV9 is not sensitive enough to dim the headlights for traffic. Quite frequently it will just leave the brights on even though there is obviously traffic in the way. It does this for oncoming traffic, traffic moving in the same direction ahead of me, and crossing traffic. It does dim the lights only under some circumstances and is very inconsistent. This puts other drivers at risk because the LED headlights are extremely bright in the high beam setting and will blind other drivers. I have had numerous o…

My family and I were driving down a busy highway at speed in the middle lane, the vehicle suddenly jolted forward and lost power. Dashboard reported electrical system failure, contact service. Vehicle was recovered to dealer who has been unable to resolve issue and KIA unable to diagnose the root cause of the problem. Very dangerous.

The 12-volt battery for the vehicle was depleted, so the vehicle had to be jump-started to run. I work for a repair facility (it was here for collision repairs, as far as I know unrelated to this issue) and since I was unfamiliar with the vehicle, I inadvertently turned it off before shifting into park. When I took my foot off the brake, the vehicle began to roll forward. I am not sure if the vehicle was in park, neutral, or even reverse (the gear I was in when I turned the vehicle off), but whatever gear it was, the vehicle kept rolling afte…

Starting on Feb 22, 2025, we observed that our Kia EV9 had dramatically reduced range. Normally, when charging was complete the dashboard would show well over 250 miles of range, even in cold weather. On Feb 22nd we started to see the range had dropped to around 60 miles, even when the dashboard reported the battery at 100% charge. The actual range seemed to be even worse, dropping dramatically even after a short drive around our town. By all appearances, the high voltage battery seems to be defective and is causing a safety issue because it co…

I was driving around 60-65 mph on the highway when suddenly a warning alarm went off and the warning light read “stop vehicle and check brake system”. I took my foot off the accelerator and car continued to maintain speed. The power brakes did not work. I put the car into neutral hoping that would slow it down, but it continued to maintain speed. I went into the right lane and put on my hazards. When I had the opportunity to pull into the breakdown lane, I did so and was able to push the brake pedal manually and get the car to stop,…

When I started the car up, I noticed a little bit of chattering on the brake pedal, which seemed very unusual. Description of the Problem: While driving my 2024 Kia EV9, the vehicle suddenly jerked and displayed a “Motor Control System” warning on the dashboard. We were driving in the middle lane, going straight approximately 25 MPH. The car lurched and almost flipped. We were able to pull over, the wheel was no longer spinning with the car and the tie rod snapped at a weld point. We could have been killed had we been going faster. My son was thankfully not in the car. I am desperately trying to get the car inspected but the dealership will not unless we pay. There were no warnings, but a whining sound began yesterday and we were on the way to the dealership this morning. Now there are warnings. Th…

I would also like to highlight the serious safety concern due to cell deviation (imbalance) along with SOC (State of Charge) mismatch as per my car's BMS (Battery management system) which is present in my vehicle and shared with Kia corporate. In an electric vehicle, the high-voltage battery cells, the Battery Management System, and the battery coolant system function as a single integrated safety-critical system. When battery cells are imbalanced and there is a significant mismatch between the state of charge displayed to the driver and the l…
