Owner report 11560766 · 2023-12-18 (December 18, 2023)
Many people have had issues with premature wear of the camshaft lobe and the valve followers due to the factory installed cam chain tensioner. The cam chain tensioner is almost a problem with any KTM Duke 790/890 or KTM Adventure 790/890. All of these bikes have issues with these specific problem within the first 10,000 miles. This cam chain tensioner failure can led to catastrophic engine failure leading to the engine being unrepairable and needing a completely new engine.

Owner report 11740873 · 2026-05-29 (May 29, 2026)
Brake light will not illuminate unless full brake pressure is applied. Incident 1 - This happened 2 separate times. Once 9/2023 at 2765 miles and again 5/2026 at 20,505 miles. My cruise control would turn on but not engage. Upon investigation I discovered the brake light was not illuminating unless full brake pressure was applied. My KTM dealership diagnosed and replaced the brake light switch both times. My understanding this switch is a "pressure switch" Incident 2 - 9/2025 at 18,199 miles my cruise control would not disengage when ap…

Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
Equal-age model-year comparison
Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Date coverage across each selected cohort

|---|---|---|---|
| 2021 | 1 | 0 | 0 |
| 2022 | 2 | 0 | 0 |
Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
