Recall history

3 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

19V918000 · Visibility:Sun/Moon Roof Assembly

Reported: 2019-12-20 (December 20, 2019)

Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC. (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2001-2011 vehicles. The bonding between the glass panel and the sliding roof frame may deteriorate, possibly resulting in the glass panel detaching from the vehicle. For a full list of the affected models visit: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2019/RMISC-19V918-4126.pdf

Consequence: A detached glass panel can separate from the vehicle and become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: MBUSA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the glass panel bonding and replace the sliding roof, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began July 10, 2020. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372. MBUSA's number for this recall is 2020040011.

MY VEHICLE HAD 9,000 MILES ON IT AND IS DRIVEN IN MODERATION. ONE OF THE RIMS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE IT WAS CRACKED - THE OTHER 3 ARE BENT. WITHIN 1,500 MILE, I HAVE LEARNED THAT THE REPLACED RIM IS NOW ALSO BENT. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE VEHICLE'S SAFTEY WHILE DRIVING AT FREEWAY SPEEDS - THE CAR SHAKES. THE MANUFACTURER REFUSES TO REPLACE THE WHEELS STATING NO DEFECTS OR RECALLS HAVE BEEN ISSUED.

THE FIRST TIME ON 05.01.2013, I WAS APPROACHING THE EXPWY EXIT (AT ABOUT 45MPH) WHEN I HEARD A LOAD POP & THE CAR SYSTEM WARNING FOR LOW TIRE PRESSURE CAME ON. I PULLED OVER AND INSPECTED THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE THAT APPEARED TO BE FLAT. ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE FROM MERCEDES BENZ- SAN JUAN CAME & THE GENTLEMAN PROCEEDED TO CHANGE THE TIRES. UPON INSPECTION, HE STATED THAT THE TIRE HAD BLOWN OUT FROM THE INSIDE WAS AND THERE APPEARED TO BE NO PUNCTURE DAMAGE TO THE TIRE. This year I have had two rims crack on my tires. 1 Front and 1 rear. This was not from a impact or pothole they just cracked. I belove this is a manufacturing defect on the AMG CLS-63S rims and should the break apart on the highway this could be a potential safety issue. Should it had only been 1 rim I could see it being a non-issue, but now another one with a car that only has 40,000 miles on it. This is deeply concerning.

OVER THE LAST YEAR, I STARTED NOTICING A VERY STRONG FUEL SMELL IN THE GARAGE, WHEN I HAPPENED TO PARK THE CAR THERE AFTER A FILL UP. RECENTLY, I TESTED IT WITHOUT FILLING UP, JUST ABOUT 2/3 FULL, AND THERE WAS NO SMELL. THERE IS GAS PUDDLING UP SOMEWHERE IN THE SENDING UNIT CRACKED HOSE OR SEAL, AND IT TAKES SEVERAL DAYS FOR IT ALL TO EVAPORATE, UNTIL THE NEXT FILL UP, REPEATING THE EXPERIENCE ALL OVER. I'VE CHECKED ONLINE AND SAW THAT THE 2006 CLS WERE RECALLED FOR THE SAME ISSUE, AND ALSO THE E SERIES CARS THAT SHARE THE SAME FUEL SYSTEM.…

MY CAR HAS A FUEL TANK LEAK AND DEFECTIVE FUEL SENDING UNITS. A FEW DAYS AGO I NOTICED A VERY STRONG FUEL SMELL AFTER FILLING UP MY CAR AT THE GAS STATION. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THAT THE FUEL TANK IS LEAKING AND BOTH FUEL SENDING UNITS NEED TO BE REPLACED. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND THAT MBUSA NEEDS TO CORRECT THE UNDERLYING PROBLEM AND ISSUE A FORMAL SAFETY RECALL. *TR

A CAST ALUMINUM WHEEL ON MY 2008 MERCEDES BENZ CLS63 AMG CRACKED DUE TO A CASTING DEFECT. IN THE INSIDE LIP OF THE RIM OF THE WHEEL AT THE OUTER DIAMETER IS A VOID, OR HOLE, THAT WAS CREATED BY A AN AIR BUBBLE THAT WAS ENTRAINED IN THE MOLTEN METAL BUT COULD NOT ESCAPE THE MOLD BEFORE THE METAL SOLIDIFIED. THIS VOID MAKES THE RADIUS OF THE WHEEL AT THAT POINT WEAK AND SUSCEPTIBLE TO CRACKING UNDER NORMAL OPERATING CONDITIONS. I AM ENTERING THIS COMPLAINT REGARDING THE CASTING DEFECT IN ORDER TO PRESENT INFORMATION THAT PROVES MERCEDES-BENZ MUST…

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
