AFTER WATCHING THE KOREAN OWNER'S PROTEST ON THE SAFETY CONCERN ON THE NEW S63, I FELT THE NEED TO RECALL MY VEHICLE ON THE ECU FILED BY NHTSA ON DECEMBER 6TH. AFTER THE RECALL ON DECEMBER 22ND. I DROVE MY CAR FOR 80MILES. WHENEVER I SLOW THE CAR DOWN FROM TRAFFIC, THE CAR JERKS FOWARD WHEN IT IS DOWNSHIFTING (AUTOMATIC) FROM 4TH GEAR TO 3RD GEAR AND 3RD TO 2ND GEAR. I WENT BACK TO THE DEALER, THEY ASK MY PERMISSION FOR EXTRA 60 MILES OF DIAGNOSTICS BECAUSE THEY THINK THERE IS AN "ADAPTATION" PERIOD FOR THE "MECHANICAL" TO ADAPT TO THE "NEW ECU…

Recall history

1 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

15V652000 · Electrical System:Software | Fuel System, Gasoline:Delivery

Reported: 2015-10-14 (October 14, 2015)

Mercedes-Benz USA LLC (Mercedes-Benz) is recalling certain model year 2014 S63 AMG sedans and 2015-2016 S63 AMG 4Matic sedans and coupes manufactured May 14, 2013, to September 18, 2015. In the affected vehicles, due to a software error within the engine control unit, the vehicle may stall when coasting to a stop, such as at a traffic light.

Consequence: The vehicle stall may be interpreted by the driver to be a planned shut-down as part of the ECO-Start-function. However, the engine will not restart automatically after releasing the brake pedal, immobilizing the vehicle and increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Mercedes-Benz will notify owners, and dealers will update the engine control unit software, free of charge. The recall BEGAN ON DECEMBER 2, 2015. Owners may contact Mercedes-Benz customer service at 1-800-367-6372. Mercedes-Benz's number for this recall is 2015100003.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
