16V008000 · Equipment:Recreational Vehicle/Trailer

Reported: 2016-01-13 (January 13, 2016)

Newmar Corporation (Newmar) is recalling certain model year 2008-2014 Bay Star, Dutch Star, and Ventana, 2012-2014 Bay Star Sport and Ventana VL, 2008-2015 Canyon Star, 2009-2010 Dutch Aire and 2008 Kountry Star motorhomes manufactured May 29, 2007, to January 14, 2015, and equipped with certain Coachstep Double and Triple Electric Steps manufactured by Lippert Components. The bolt that attaches the fan gear assembly to the steps may fracture allowing the fan gear to disengage from the steps. As a result, the steps may not remain in the expected position and may be unstable.

Consequence: Unstable entry and exit steps increase the risk of injury.

Remedy: Newmar will notify owners, and dealers will install a retainer bracket to reinforce the operating mechanism, free of charge. The recall began on February 17, 2016. Owners may contact Newmar customer service at 1-574-773-7791 or Lippert Customer service at 574-537-8900. Newmar's number for this recall is 15E 078.

Reported: 2017-12-15 (December 15, 2017)

Newmar Corporation (Newmar) is recalling various 1995-2018 motorhomes. A list of the affected vehicles available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V809-2309.pdf. These motorhomes are equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers that may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. For a full list of the affected fire extinguisher models visit: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17E062-5427.pdf

Consequence: In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.

Remedy: Newmar will notify owners, and instruct them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began on February 7, 2018. Owners may contact Kidde customer service toll-free at 1-855-262-3540, or online at www.kidde.com and click on "Product Safety Recall" for more information or owners may contact Newmar customer service at 1-574-773-7791. Newmar's number for this recall is 17E-062.

On this 2021 Bay Star Sport 2702 motorhome from August 3 through September 15, the "Brake Applied - Power Reduced" light on the unit's console came on 42 times. This is a sporadic occurrence which is a very safety hazard and an accident is going to happen causing death to others. When slowing down or stopping completely and ready to accelerate, the Brake Applied - Power Reduced comes on locking all wheels and you are only able to go a maximum of 5 mph. You need to hit the brakes hard to release the locked wheels and continue. This does not help…

We had Ford recall #21S17 performed on our 2021 Bay Star Sport. Upon leaving the Ford dealership to return to our camp I started receiving warning lights and an error message on my console. Message was “hill assist disabled”, warning lights were for ABS , TCS operations. We called the dealership and we’re told to return to them. The motorhome was not hoisted, they used my stabilizing jacks and a manual jack to examine the rear. Upon talking to the technician, it was diagnosed as a passenger rear tone ring failure. The parts aren’t available to …

So I just had my oil changed. And when they shut the hood, the hood stop fell out the bottom. They really just glued the hood stop on? This is allowed? And they didn't even do it properly. And I'd know. I'm a former ASE Certified Master Tech. First, they used the adhesive as a spacer to make the square bracket sit 90 degrees to the ground on a curved panel. Unnecessary since you can't see the bracket with the hood closed. Second, they didn't rough up either surface for adhesion and, they didn't put any adhesive BETWEEN the bracket and the body…

The mounting brackets for the rear axel sway bar was missing a bolt in each bracket. Passenger side bracket was hanging below sway bar, driver's side had top bolt missing and was loose. Talked to Ford tech and was told to install a grade 8 bolt with a lock washer and nut. These bolts are M16s, grade 10.9, can I replace them with 5/8 inch grade 8 bolts?

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison
