Recall history

10 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

21V182000 · Service Brakes, Air:Antilock

Reported: 2021-03-17 (March 17, 2021)

Newmar Corporation (Newmar) is recalling certain 2021 Dutch Star, New Aire, and Ventana motorhomes. The adjustable brake pedal assembly may be missing a return spring. This may cause the brake lights to stay illuminated after the brake pedal is released. Also, in certain towed vehicles, the brakes may stay engaged after the brake pedal is released.

Consequence: Malfunctioning brake lights can fail to alert other motorists of the driver's intention, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, brakes remaining unintentionally engaged on a towed vehicle can increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Newmar will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the brake pedal assembly, and install a return spring if necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin May 16, 2021. Owners may contact Newmar customer service at 1-800-731-8300. Newmar's number for this recall is 21V 108.

Newmar Corporation (Newmar) is recalling certain 2021 London Aire, Dutch Star, New Aire, Ventana, and Mountain Aire vehicles. The steering output shaft may be too short and could disengage from the steering input shaft.

Consequence: Disengagement of the steering output shaft may result in a loss of steering, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Newmar will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the steering column, free of charge. The recall began on May 19, 2021. Owners may contact Newmar customer service at 1-800-731-8300 and Shyft Group customer service at 1-800-582-3454. Newmar's number for this recall is 21V-214.

Consequence: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect the rail threads, and replace the rail as necessary, free of charge. Interim notification letters were mailed to owners on July 16, 2021. Owners may contact Newmar customer service at 1-800-731-8000. Newmar's number for this recall is Cummins 21E-032.

The Valor TPMS system on the Freightliner chassis has not worked correctly for as long as I have owned the coach. I was hopeful that recent recall work performed by a Freightliner service center on the system would help but it actually made the system worse. As was prior to the recall work several of the sensors still fail to report their pressures completely, others report only sporadically. This essentially renders the system useless as the driver may not be made aware of a loss of tire pressure while driving. Additionally, since the recal…

Wheel overheated, causing tire failure, rendering unit non-drivable. I'm told an incorrectly seated bearing was the cause; waiting for the entire axle to be replaced. Now 60 days with manufacturer-authorized service center representative who pursued issue even when manufacturer stated "all clear", which it was not. Warning gauge on dash indicated failure but only upon failure. Highly dangerous, in-traffic situation, I was stranded on roadside for hours in a tight situation - 2 lane highway on a curvey, mountain road.

Hinge failure on bay door. It is a common problem and has failed 3 times so far. The "C" clamp on the hing fails which causes the bolt to fall out and door to fall off. Newmar employees have stated that this is a poor design. Door falls off and the motorhome cannot be driven until fixed. It opens while driving going down the road, which could cause a serious accident. We are paying for yet another mobile rv repair to come out today and fix if possible.

This system has no driver controls. While we ideally would like to maintain a huge space between the vehicle in front of us, in real world driving heavy traffic precludes us from being able to do so. When traffic is heavy and cars and trucks are pulling in around and in front of you this system starts beeping loudly and at a increasing rate. You are in a stressful situation with vehicles all around you which is made worse by a never ending loud beeping that becomes a major distraction. Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
