August 6, 2021 NHTSA Safety Issue ID: 21V3960000 As a first-time purchaser of an RV, what I had hoped would be an answer to some of my life’s difficulties has turned out to be a nightmare. On August 5, I descended on California Highway 88 East from the Carson Pass; less than 1 mile down a warning appeared to “Service Brake System”. The warning disappeared but the “brake” light on the instrument cluster remained on. I took the vehicle to Carson Dodge on August 6. The dealer performed diagnostics and made two repairs based on generated codes (C1223-68 & P0556). I picked it up on August 13 and drove about 200 miles; the warning re-appeared each time I drove it. I returned the vehicle to Carson Dodge on August 16. The “brake…

Reported: 2021-09-09 (September 9, 2021)

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2021 Ram ProMaster City and Ram ProMaster vehicles. The seat belt automatic locking retractors may deactivate early, which can prevent the child restraint system from securing properly. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

Consequence: An unsecured child restraint system can increase the risk of injury during a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the seat belt retractors as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 28, 2021. Owners may contact FCA US LLC customer service at 1-800-853- 1403. FCA US LLC's number for this recall is Y61.

While driving on a straight highway, no wind, no weather, 65 mph, both hands on wheel, the van started revving and lost power. I pulled over with engine still running. The 2021 Ram ProMaster 2500 I purchased from a dealer on 12/6/25 now has a serious safety defect. The transmission began grinding when shifting into Drive on 1/27/26. Immediately after, the vehicle started rolling backwards while fully in Park with the engine running. This indicates a failure of the parking pawl or internal gearset. The backup camera also does not function, there are coolant and power steering leaks, and the axle/wheel bearing is failing. The dealer claimed the van passed a “120-point inspection,” but it is clearly unsafe and u…

The “brake…

After van was put in reverse, when put in forward, the left rear caliper seized up and wheel would not turn. Was able to free wheel after putting in forward and reverse a few times. Seized again later that day. Was able to free up again and drive to dealer. Dealer stated rear and front driver-side calipers were not functioning correctly and will need replaced. Currently, van is at dealer awaiting repair. There was no accident. I don't recall any warning lights.

While driving on a straight highway, no wind, no weather, 65 mph, both hands on wheel, the van started revving and lost power. I pulled over with engine still running. There were no codes or warning light. I tried to drive again. It continued to rev and not get up to speed. I pulled over again and shut it down. I waited a few minutes and then started it. When pulling back on freeway it ran normal with no more issues for another 700 miles. I took it in to the Dodge dealer on 1-13-23 to have it checked. They couldn't find anything. …

The vehicle suddenly and without warning experienced a complete loss of steering control, rendering it undrivable and forcing it to stop on the side of a public roadway. This created a significant risk to my personal safety and to public safety. On the same day, the vehicle was towed to an authorized RAM dealership for inspection. The dealership confirmed that the serpentine belt had broken, there was abnormal noise from the alternator, and the entire power steering system was internally contaminated with metal shavings, requiring complete rep…

The fuel tank is leaking where the fuel tube goes into the tank. The seal starts to leak and they do not make a replacement seal, you have to replace the entire fuel tank. This is the 2nd Promaster van that I have had and the 2nd time this has happened. This is dangerous to have fuel leaking from the front of the vehicle. This is a poor design, it’s a very common problem with these vehicles that still hasn’t been addressed. It’s also an expensive problem because the tank costs $1300 without labor, and you just can’t buy the gasket itself you h…

12/2020 First the TPS sensor failed at 1,000 miles and almost caused an accident. Would not go over 25mph, was shifting hard, and the service engine light was on. Verified and replaced at dealership. Second, the rear view camera stopped working while backing up and almost caused an accident - no back windows - major safety issue. Replaced by me as they have no replacement for it even though its under recall. No warnings. Third, the transmission was shifting hard and fell out while I was driving on the freeway at 55,000.
