Recall history

1 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

96V194005 · Equipment:Electrical

Reported: 1997-04-15 (April 15, 1997)

THE "O" RINGS OF THE REGULATOR ASSEMBLY IN THE ONAN EMERALD AND MARQUIS BRAND GENERATOR SETS CAN WEAKEN AND BREAK WHEN EXPOSED TO HIGH AMBIENT TEMPERATURES.

Consequence: IF AN IGNITION SOURCE IS PRESENT, LIQUID PROPANE GAS (LPG) LEAKAGE COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.

Remedy: OWNER NOTIFICATION WILL BE CONDUCTED BY ONAN. DEALERS WILL EITHER REMOVE THE LPG REGULATOR AND REPLACE IT WITH A MODEL NOT SUBJECT TO RUPTURE, OR INSTALL A PRE-REGULATOR IN THE FUEL SYSTEM.

WHEN THIS PART FAILS IT SHORT CIRCUITS TO THE STARTER SOLONOID CAUSING THE STARTER TO TURN THE ENGINE. THE ONLY SOLUTION IS TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERIES HOWEVER BY THAT TIME THE WIRING IS ON FIRE. ON MY VEHICLE, THE NEW FUEL CUT OFF PART FAILED ON THE SECOND OR THIRD START OF THE ENGINE, AGAIN BURNING OUT THE STARTER BUT NOT THE WIRING. IF THIS UNIT SHOULD FAIL WHILE DRIVING, AS THE REPLACEMENT DID, A SERIOUS ACCIDENT COULD OCCUR BECAUSE THE ENGINE DIES LEAVING THE DRIVER WITHOUT ANY POWER FOR STEERING AND THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT COULD BE ON FIR…

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
