I AM NOT REPORTING A FAILURE. RATHER I AM REPORTING THAT I AM MATERIALLY IMPACTED BY THE REAR SUBFRAME FAILURES ON SUZUKI GSX1300R MOTORCYCLES (SEVERAL IN UK; AS MANY AS 40 WORLDWIDE) BECAUSE SUZUKI REFUSES TO RECALL AND REPLACE THE FAILING SUBFRAMES. I AM IMPACTED BECAUSE NO AFTERMARKET LUGGAGE MANUFACTURER WILL PRODUCE LUGGAGE FOR A MOTORCYCLE WITH KNOWN REAR SUBFRAME FAILURES. SUZUKI'S POSITION ON THIS ISSUE IS COMPLETELY UNREASONABLE; THEY SAY THE GSX1300R WAS 'NOT DESIGNED TO CARRY LUGGAGE'. THIS IS LIKE A CAR MANUFACTURER SAYING, AFTE…

THE ALUMINUM SUBFRAME WAS RECALLED BY SUZUKI OF EUROPE FOR BEING DEFECTIVE. THERE HAVE NOW BEEN SEVERAL DOCUMENTED FAILURES HERE IN THE US. ALSO, AN INDEPENDENT TESTING COMPANY IN EUROPE TESTED THE SUBFRAMES AND FOUND THEM TO BE DEFECTIVE BY DESIGN. SUZUKI OF AMERICA IS IGNORING THE PROBLEM AND I AM CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY WHEN RIDING MY BIKE. I AM ESPECIALLY CONCERNED WHEN MY WIFE RIDES WITH ME. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE ASAP.

Recall history

1 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

00V319000 · Engine And Engine Cooling:Engine

Reported: 2000-10-11 (October 11, 2000)

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, THE SPRING IN THE CAM CHAIN TENSION ADJUSTER CAN BREAK. EXCESSIVE SLACK WILL DEVELOP IN THE CAM CHAIN, ALLOWING THE CHAIN TO JUMP TO THE WRONG POSITION ON THE CAM SHAFT SPROCKETS.

Consequence: SEVERE ENGINE DAMAGE COULD OCCUR, CAUSING SUDDEN ENGINE FAILURE.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE ORIGINAL CAM CHAIN TENSION ADJUSTER, OR THE FIRST GENERATION RECALL TENSION ADJUSTER, WITH A NEW OIL-DAMPED RATCHET-TYPE CAM CHAIN TENSION ADJUSTER. DEALERS WILL ALSO INSTALL A NEW TENSION ADJUSTER OIL SUPPLY HOSE AND A NEW CAM CHAIN GUIDE.

THE RECTIFIER/STATOR DOES NOT MAINTAIN A CHARGE ON THE BATTERY. THE BIKE HAS GONE DEAD WHILE RIDING IN TRAFFIC ON THE HIGHWAY. AFTER 20 MINUTES THE BIKE STARTED BY ROLLING DOWN HILL. WHILE STATIONARY, A NEW BATTERY WAS PUT IN BUT IT WOULD NOT START THE MOTORCYCLE AND PULLS THE COLD CRANKING AMPS DOWN TO 65 CC AMPS FROM 214 CC AMPS. THE MOTORCYCLE ON HAS 2744 MILES AND IS USED FOR CASUAL RIDING ONLY.

The contact owns a 2023 Suzuki GSX1300R. The contact stated that while his wife was riding at an undisclosed speed, the motorcycle inadvertently lost motive power. The driver was able to pull over to the shoulder of the roadway, where the motorcycle failed to restart. The oil warning light was illuminated. The motorcycle was towed to the dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure, surmising that the fuel that the contact was using had insufficient octane levels, resulting in combustion issues. The contact was advised to use a higher-octane…

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
