Reported: 2012-06-29 (June 29, 2012)

Toyota is recalling certain model year 2010 Lexus RX350 and RX450h vehicles, manufactured from November 28, 2008, through September 1, 2010, and model year 2008 through 2011 Toyota Land Cruiser vehicles manufactured from September 1, 2007, through September 5, 2011. In July 2012, Toyota filed a defect report to recall certain model year 2010 Lexus RX350 and RX450h vehicles. In November 2012, Toyota informed the agency that it was including an additional 10,565 vehicles including certain model year 2008 through 2011 Toyota Land Cruiser vehicles. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 164,601. The accelerator pedal can get stuck in the wide open position due to its being trapped by an unsecured or incompatible driver's floor mat.

Consequence: A stuck open accelerator pedal may result in very high vehicle speeds and make it difficult to stop the vehicle, which could cause a crash, serious injury or death.

Remedy: Toyota and Lexus will notify owners of affected vehicles and dealers will modify or replace the accelerator pedal and replace any driver's floor mat not specified for the vehicle. Owners of the Lexus vehicles were notified during August 2012. Toyota has not yet provided a notification schedule for the additional Land Cruiser vehicles. Owners may contact Toyota Customer Experience Center at 1-800-331-4331 or Lexus at 1-800-255-3987.

Driving on trail ridge road in Estes park. Fuel boiled and gas flowed out of the vehicle around the gas cap. It presents a real fire and environmental risk in addition to causing property damage to the vehicle by potentially damaging the paint with the boiling fuel. The government has not done anything to address this design flaw with Toyota despite it being known for decades. This has been present with the 80, 100, 200 series vehicles plus the Toyota Tundra, Lexus GX and Lexus LX. There are a frightening number complaints about th…

Water pump failed at under 60k, but was just over 60k miles when I brought into Toyota Dealer (Rudy Luther, Minnetonka MN). Toyota denied claim and won’t stand behind a water pump failure. This part doesn’t have any maintenance needed per manufacture documentation within the miles I have on vehicle. Further - this is becoming a topic within many forums that Toyota has an issue with water pumps and is fully aware of this. I’d like to see Toyota take care of this issue and pay for this repair.

TODAY I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE TIRE SHOP FOR A TIRE ROTATION. I WAS ADVISED THAT AT LEAST THREE OF MY COOPER DISCOVERER HT PLUS (285/60/18 MANUFACTURE DATE 3/18) HAVE BEEN PARTIALLY BEEN SEPARATED FROM THE CORE WIRE. ALL THREE WHEELS APPEAR TO BE ALMOST WAVY. I HAVE NOT FELT ANY SHAKING BUT I WAS TOLD BY THE TIRE TECHNICIAN THAT THE PROCESS IS AT THE BEGINNING STAGES OF SEPARATION AND THAT IT WILL GET WORSE.

I, MEMBERS OF MY FAMILY AND BUSINESS ASSOCIATES HAVE EXPERIENCED A STICKING ACCELERATOR ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS ON MY 2009 TOYOTA LANDCRUISER. THIS WAS NOT DUE TO THE FLOOR MATS. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE TOYOTA DEALER, JOE MACHENS, IN COLUMBIA MISSOURI COMPLAINING ABOUT THE PROBLEM. THEY STATED NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. I REQUESTED THEY ESCALATE THE PROBLEM TO THEIR REGIONAL DIVISION WHO STATED THAT I WAS THE ONLY ONE MAKING THIS COMPLAINT. CLEARLY, I WAS NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. I CALLED TOYOTA C…

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
