AT LESS THAN 40,000 MILES, THE RUBBER BOOTS ON MY FRONT SUSPENSION BALL JOINTS FAILED. THIS ALLOWED DIRT AND WATER INTO THE SEALED AREA WHICH CAUSED THE BALL JOINTS TO FAIL. I HAD TO HAVE THEM REPLACED AT 47,000 MILES. WHILE I WAS AT THE SPARTAN FACTORY HAVING THE WORK DONE, I TALKED TO 3 OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. Recall history

3 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

03V341000 · Suspension:Front:Control Arm

Reported: 2003-09-15 (September 15, 2003)

ON CERTAIN MOTORHOMES EQUIPPED WITH TUTHILL INDEPENDENT FRONT SUSPENSIONS, THE DEFECT IS INSUFFICIENT TIGHTENING TORQUE OF THE STEERING KNUCKLE CARRIER BOLT THAT MAY RESULT IN SEPARATION OF THE STEERING KNUCKLE FROM ONE OF THE CONTROL.

Consequence: SHOULD THE STEERING KNUCKLE CARRIER SEPARATE FROM THE CONTROL ARM, THE OPERATOR COULD LOOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A CRASH.

Remedy: TUTHILL WILL NOTIFY ITS CUSTOMERS AND PROVIDE A RETROFIT KIT P/N K704627 FREE OF CHARGE. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT TUTHILL TRANSPORT TECHNOLOGIES AT 800-225-7824 (EXT. #390) OR SPARTAN AT 517-543-6400 OR TRAVEL SUPREME AT 574-862-4484.

Reported: 2004-01-22 (January 22, 2004)

ON CERTAIN MODELS 36DS03, 38DS02, 38DS03, 38DS04, 40DS01, 40DS03, 40DS04, AND 45DS01 MOTORHOMES BUILT ON SPARTAN CHASSIS, THE ANGLE OF THE HOSES FROM THE HYDRAULIC PUMP COULD CONTACT THE POSITIVE STUD ON THE STARTER.

Consequence: THIS COULD RESULT IN CLOSE CONTACT WITH THE STARTER AND CAUSE IGNITION OF HYDRAULIC FLUID WHICH COULD RESULT IN INJURY AND/OR PROPERTY DAMAGE.

Remedy: SPARTAN IS CONDUCTING THE OWNER NOTIFICATION AND REMEDY FOR THIS CAMPAIGN. DEALERS WILL REPLACE ON VEHICLES WITH CUMMINS ISL ENGINES AND 39MT DELCO STARTERS AT LEAST ONE OF THE 45 DEGREE FITTINGS WITH A 90 DEGREE FITTING AND ALSO REPLACE THE HOSE ASSEMBLY. ON ISL AND ISC ENGINES WITH 42MT DELCO STARTER, DEALERS WILL CHANGE ONE FITTING AT THE REAR OF THE HYDRAULIC PUMP AND RE-ROUTE A HOSE. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT SPARTAN AT 1-517-543-6400 OR TRAVEL SUPREME AT (574) 862-4484.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
