AS I WAS PULLING OUT OF A GAS STATION ONTO THE ROAD I HEARD A POP AND FELT A VIBRATION IN THE HANDLEBAR. I PULLED OVER AND EXAMINED THE FRONT WHEEL BECAUSE THAT'S WHERE THE NOISE SEEMED TO COME FROM, EVERYTHING LOOKED FINE WITH THE FRONT WHEEL SO I DROVE OFF AT 35 MPH, THE SPEED LIMIT ON THAT ROAD, AND ABOUT A MILE DOWN THE ROAD THE BIKE FELT WOBBLY SO I PULLED OVER AGAIN AND NOW HAD A FLAT REAR TIRE AND NOTICED ONE OF THE SPOKES HAD BROKEN OFF THE LEFT (BRAKE DISK) SIDE OF THE REAR WHEEL. *NM

Reported: 2004-10-14 (October 14, 2004)

ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, THERE MAY BE A POOR WELD ON THE REAR SUSPENSION UNIT BODY.

Consequence: FAILURE OF THE REAR SUSPENSION UNIT MAY COMPROMISE THE STABILITY OF THE MOTORCYCLE WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE REAR SUSPENSION UNITS. THE RECALL BEGAN ON DECEMBER 20, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT TRIUMPH AT 1-678-854-2010.

The bike will no longer downshift reliably. This jeopardizes the rider because the inability to select a lower gear to slow the motorcycle using engine braking and when arriving at a traffic light or an intersection that requires a lower gear to pull out from a stop safely into traffic. This has not been verified yet by a professional but I have an appointment in a few days from now (on August 5, 2025) with a local Triumph dealer to inspect and correct the issue. After some internet research, this downshifting issue/gearbox failure appears …
