REFERENCE RECALL 91V201000: A RECALL ON 1987 VW 16V SCIROCCOS' FUEL TANK. MY 1986 16 V SCIROCCO WAS AN EARLY RELEASE OF THE 16V SCIROCCO MODEL; IT IS ACTUALLY A 1986 1/2. IT IS EXACTLY LIKE THE 1987 MODEL. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY MY CAR IS NOT COVERED BY THIS RECALL. I HAVE TRIED TO CONTACT THE MANUF. AND I HAVE NOT HAD ANY LUCK, SAME WITH DEALER SO FAR. *AK

Recall history

1 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

87V053000 · Fuel System, Gasoline:Delivery:Fuel Pump

Reported: 1987-04-14 (April 14, 1987)

FUEL PUMP, LOCATED INSIDE FUEL TANK, COULD SEIZE DURING HIGH AMBIENT TEMPERATURES BECAUSE OF AN EXTREME FINE MESH FUEL FILTER RESTRICTING THE FUEL FLOW.

Consequence: FUEL SUPPLY TO ENGINE WOULD BE PARTIALLY INTERRUPTED,RESULTING IN STALLING.

Remedy: INSTALL A MODIFIED FUEL PUMP AND FILTER.

I OWN 2 1987 VW SCIROCCOS, BOTH HAVE HAD SUDDEN AND CATOSTROPHIC TRANSMISSION FAILURE WHICH COMPLETLY DESTROYED THE TRANSMISSIONS, BOTH LOCKED UP ON THE ROAD AND NEARLY CAUSED HORRIFIC ACCIDENTS. THIS PROBLEM EXISTS IN SEVERAL MODELS WITH THIS TYPE OF TRANSMISSION AND HAS BEEN IGNORED BY VW AND VWOA. THIS CAR ALSO HAS A LEAKING FUEL TANK WHICH I HAVE TRIED TO HAVE REPAIRED BUT THE DEALERS REFUSE TO EVEN CONFIRM THE PROBLEM. I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH LARGE GROUPS OF VW OWNERS WITH THESE PROBLEMS, AND THE RESULTS FROM DEALER INSPECTIONS OR JUST…

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
