Owner report 11499850 · 2023-01-03 (January 3, 2023)

On December 29, 2022, I took delivery of a brand new 2023 ID.4 Pro S AWD with 20 miles on the odometer. The vehicle was showing a 12V battery warning the following day. I drove it for about 80 miles that day to ensure that the 12V battery is charged in case it was not properly looked after during transport and at the dealer. The next day, the vehicle was inoperable and immobilized. The 12V battery has failed and the accessory voltage dropped to 8V. Power steering stopped working, headlights were not working and it was not possible to put the ve…

I was also told, it was a thing happening with some new VW ID4 2023. Some sort of short circuit. I went home, did some research, I learned about the recall. I questioned a person on the phone (from dealership) about the notice. They did not answer whether it was safe to drive. On the way to the dealership to fix the door issue, I was involved in a crash. Because all aspects of the cabin comfort are controlled through a visual screen, it's extremely dangerous to drive at night, or even sometimes during heavy daytime traffic. The car drives very well, but is quick, and taking one's eyes off the road even momentarily is risky. I've had several close calls already, and I am an older woman who drives conservatively. It's a struggle to find the defroster, or to turn on the heater, and I dare not change the radio station!

I questioned a person on the phone (from dealership) about the notice. They did not answer whether it was safe to drive. On the way to the dealership to fix the door issue, I was involved in a crash. The computer screen (which controls almost every function of the car) often shuts off in the middle of operating (e.g. driving on a highway) and the only way to "fix" it is to shut the car off. The car shut down while driving. Many system warnings appeared sequentially stating that they were no longer functioning. The first to appear and remain as a warning light is the electrical system malfunction. It is currently orange, however, it turned red at one point. My car was unable to go into drive, nor reverse. I had my car serviced just over a month ago for a similar issue - power stopped being delivered to the wheels.

The car spontaneously came to a stop in the middle of the road and would not start again. The displayed showed plenty of battery charge/miles of range left, meaning the issue was not a dead battery. There were several error messages, notably one indicating that the car could not be put into drive because it was still connected to a charging cable. Being that the car was in the middle of the road, the car was not connected to a charger. Problem Description The core issue stems from a production fault in the battery cells that can cause increased self-discharge. In a high-voltage battery pack, which operates like a chain of interconnected modules, a single faulty module with elevated self-discharge becomes the “weakest link.” This leads to: • Degradation of the overall usable capacity. • Reduced driving range and power limitations. • Potential cascading failures affecting additional modules over time. • Warning indicators, such as a yellow electrical system fault in the ins…

VW ID4 2023 Day two owning ID4, driver's door would not open. I was at the dealership at the time and I was told to make an appointment to fix it. On two occasions the entire instrument panel went dark. Speed and other information were not available. It is my perception that lane keeping assistance, blind spot monitoring, automatic braking for collision avoidance and other safety systems were not available during those incidents.

I have never been in a car accident in my entire life. This was my first ever electric vehicle, and I really loved driving it for the one week I owned it before the brakes failed to stop it. On 03/31 I had to restart the software several times because it froze when i was trying to connect it to Apple Carplay, but it was fine the next day. During the crash, I had the brake collision assistance on, but unfortunately it did not assist me in trying to stop, even when I pressed down on the brake pedal completely. When I tried to turn the steering …

1) Brakes: Brakes decelerate and is difficult to stop the vehicle. This is not in all cases when I stop. When I need to do an emergency stop I have to push the brake pedal very hard and pedal pressure feels low. I hope I dont get into and accident when trying to stop. 2) Lane departing warning: The vehicle some times would interpret the street white lines or yellow lanes incorrectly. It would sometime jerk my steering to correct my driving. If a white line stops at an intersection and starts after an intersection it would try and correct my dri…

I was pulling into a parking structure when the left side of the vehicle (door handles, windows, sensors) lost power. I was able to park the vehicle and then have it towed to the dealership. Although it happened at very low speed, my safety was at risk. It would have been very dangerous if this had happened on the freeway. I was unable to open the door or to close the driver window. The dealer found a blown fuse. They have not been able to identify a cause of what would cause a fuse to blow like this. They continue to work on it (we are on day…

While backing up in a driveway at approximately 3-4 miles per hour, the vehicle lost all power and stalled. Both screens went completely black. Seconds later (10-15 maybe) the system re-initialized as if it was rebooted. If this happened at higher speed, it might result in accidents.

9942 miles – Error: 12V power supply. Safely Park the vehicle! See owner’s manual. Pulled over a turned vehicle off. Took vehicle to AutoNation VW. By the time I arrived at the dealership the error was no longer on the screen. Jeffrey Lopez had said it would be checked as part of the 10,000-mile service (which according to Jeffrey included oil change.) I showed Jeff pictures of the error message. Tech performed the 10000-mile service, scanned the vehicle but claimed they were unable to duplicate concern. Nothing was documented regarding the electri…

* After parking on a hill (with the car facing uphill) and putting the car in Park, as my wife was gathering her things to exit the car, the car suddenly released from Park and lurched backward, rolling into the parked car behind it. This caused a dent on the back of the ID4, fortunately no damage to the other car. And especially fortunate that no people were hurt. * We called the dealership and also opened a case with VW corporate. Both were very responsive. After a week of running tests, they returned the car to us because they couldn't repro…

As you pull to a complete stop, in the final speed between 2mph and 0mph, the brake will pull away from my foot and go straight towards the floor. The car will lurch forward and then come to a complete stop. This happens 2-4 times per month and the dealership can’t find any service codes. My wife won’t drive the vehicle.

I was unable to put the car into neutral in order to move it to the side of the road and out from the middle o…

Driver-side door opens and closes by itself while driving or when the car is stopped. Driver-side door also locks and unlocks itself while driving or when the car is stopped. Unable to unlock driver-side door from the outside of the car. Some times the driver side door will not open from the inside all the way. Before, this was just a frustrating inconvenience, but yesterday, it became a scary, safety hazard. I was stopped in the middle of the street during peak hour traffic at a green light unable to start my car because the driver-side…
