THERE ARE MANY STEERING ISSUES ABOUT THE XCS FREIGHTLINER CHASSIS USED IN THE WINNEBAGO DIESEL PUSHERS. WE HAVE A BRAND NEW WINNEBAGO AND THE STEERING HAS SO MUCH PLAY IN IT. WE HAVE HAD IT TO THE DEALER AND FREIGHTLINER TWICE AND ALL THEY SAY IS IT IS ADJUSTED TO SPECIFICATIONS. THIS RIG IS NOT SAFE TO DERIVE ON THE HIGHWAY. THE AMOUNT OF PLAY IN THE WHEEL MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO KEEP THE MH STRAIGHT ON A ROAD. THIS IS AN ACCIDENT JUST WAITING TO HAPPEN. WE CAN SWAP OUT SOME COMPONENTS AT A STEEP COST, BUT THIS IS A BRAND NEW MH! WE ALS…

THE FULL-WALL SLIDEOUT ON MY 2014 WINNEBAGO FORZA 38R OPENED WHILE COACH WAS IN MOTION. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND STOP WITHOUT INCIDENT. I FOUND THE FRONT OF THE SLIDEOUT FULLY EXTENDED AND THE REAR OUT ABOUT HALF WAY. I USED THE SLIDEOUT SWITCH AND A SERIES OF RETRACT/EXTEND ACTIONS TO BRING IT BACK IN. THE SLIDEOUT ALIGNED ITSELF AND FULLY RETRACTED AS A RESULT OF THESE ACTIONS. THE UNEXPECTED DEPLOYMENT HAPPENED AT 55 MPH ON A TWO-LANE ROAD. THERE WAS A 25 MPH LEFT-TO-RIGHT CROSS WIND WITH SEVERE BUFFETING AS TRUCKS PASSED IN THE O…

MOTOR HOME HAS BED ABOVE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEATS. THE BED IS RAISED AND LOWERED BY ELECTRIC MOTOR. THE BED ON OUR MH DOES NOT LOCK IN PLACE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AND SITS ON AN ANGLE LOWERED ON PASSENGER SIDE. THERE IS A SEATBELT TYPE LATCH ON DRIVERS SIDE FOR SAFETY; HOWEVER, WITH BED ON AN ANNIVERSARY GLE, THE BELT CANNOT BE LATCHED. WITH ADDITIONAL STRESS ON DRIVER SIDE MOTOR DRIVE, IT IS DESTINED TO BREAK LOOSE DUE TO BOUNCING MOVEMENT OF VEHICLE. IF THE ATTACHMENTS COME LOOSE, THE BED WILL STRIKE THE DRIVERS HEAD WHILE IN MOTION.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

WE ALS…

I READ A COMPLAINT IN THE NHTSA FILES, ABOUT THE LOOSE STEERING OF ANOTHER 2019 WINNEBAGO FORZA 34T, ON FREIGHTLINER XCS CHASSIS. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS ME GETTING USED TO THE STEERING, BUT AFTER DRIVING THIS MOTORHOME APPROXIMATELY 3000 MILES, I REALIZED THAT THE COACH IS VERY UNSTABLE AND THE STEERING HAS TOO MUCH PLAY IN IT. IT MAKES IT VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL AND MAINTAIN IT WITHIN THE TRAFFIC LANES, SPECIALLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OF 60-65 MPH. I AM AN EXCELLENT DRIVER AND HAVE HAD EXTENSIVE DRIVER'S TRAINING DURING MY CAREER IN LAW ENF…
