IT SHOULD BE 2005-2008, THE LAST YEAR THEY WERE MADE. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURS…

I AM AWARE OF A PROBLEM WITH FUEL PUMP FAILURE AND CONSEQUENT ENGINE STALLING IN YAMAHA MOTORCYCLE MODEL WR250R AND WR250X, MODEL YEAR 2008. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN ADDRESSED BY A RECALL IN JAPAN ON THIS MODEL (AS WELL AS OTHER MODELS USING THIS PUMP ASSEMBLY). AT THIS TIME, I SEE NO COMPLAINTS LISTED ON YOUR WEBSITE. AS THIS CONSTITUTES A SAFETY ISSUE, I THINK THAT A RECALL IN THE USA SHOULD BE REQUIRED. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED ON AT LEAST 3 POPULAR ENTHUSIAST WEB SITES. IF YOU CAN PROVIDE A SPECIFIC E-MAIL ADDRESS FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE…

IN WARM WEATHER, FUEL PUMP FAILS AFTER GETTING HOT. TODAY, AFTER A 20 MINUTE RIDE AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS, I ARRIVED AT MY DESTINATION. THE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE WAS AROUND 75 DEGREES. AFTER 2 HOURS, READY TO RETURN, I TRIED TO START THE SCOOTER, NO JOY. AFTER REMOVING THE PLASTIC HELMET TRAY UNDER THE SEAT, I POURED CHILLED WATER ON THE FUEL PUMP ATOP THE GAS TANK, AND THEN THE SCOOTER STARTED RIGHT UP. HAD THIS PROBLEM LAST SUMMER BUT NEVER FIGURED OUT WHAT THE ISSUE WAS. ALWAYS JUST HAD TO LET IT SIT FOR SEVERAL HOURS BEFORE IT WOULD START …

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
