Owner report 11529795 · 2023-06-30 (June 30, 2023)

This report is for a 2023 BMW x1 with a dual clutch transmission. I was driving on a four lane road with a 35 mph speed limit and attempting to make a left turn. I was stopped at the light waiting the oncoming traffic to clear to make the left turn (from the left most of the two lanes). There was a significant delay in the car moving after pressing the accelerator allowing for the oncoming traffic to get within a dangerous range before the car finally moved. The car did make the left turn quickly, but the delay in initiating the turn was q…

The car has a serious turbo lag. When I stepped on the gas it would take a few seconds for the car to move. I was very nervous driving it, as it was difficult to judge when I could enter or cross a stream of traffic safely. This is a serious safety issue. The dealership offered to come to my home with a loaner and have one of their employees accompany me while I drove the car to illustrate the issue. The person readily agreed several times there was an issue in the way the turbo or transmission was functioning. He loaded the car on the fl…

I am filing this complaint regarding the unresolved safety recall for the Integrated Brake System (IBS) on my 2023 BMW X1. The recall, issued in February 2024, addresses critical safety issues, including the potential loss of power brake assist, Antilock Brake System (ABS) failure, and compromised Dynamic Stability Control (DSC). These defects increase the risk of accidents, particularly in emergency braking situations or poor driving conditions. Since the recall’s announcement, BMW Corporate has repeatedly confirmed that no official remedy is…

The squeaking sometimes went away after regular maintenance, but usually reappeared withing a few hundred miles of driving. My Moonroof shade gets stuck when I try to open and close it. This has been a huge problem among other BMW X1s and it is over $2,000 to fix! This has caused a lot of issues in my car. Thousands of other drivers have also reported this issue. It is not safe having my shade stuck since people can see into my car, and the sun shines which will eventually ruin my leather.

On November 18, 2022, around 9:45 a.m. on Rt. 462 in South Carolina. I was driving my 2021 BMW X1 when “boom.” I thought I’d been shot at with a shotgun. I nearly lost control of the car. As it turns out, by sunroof exploded. (See attached photo). My BMW dealer is covering it under warranty, but I thought I should let NHTSA know. It has been replaced, so inspection is not an option. There were no symptoms prior to the failure.

The auto start software will turn the engine off when the car is still rolling. I can be rolling 2-4 MPH and the engine will just turn off. There’s a huge delay after the engine restarts for power to continue. There is no way to permanently turn off this feature. If you are making a left turn across traffic you can be in a situation where the car will allow you to roll into oncoming traffic with the engine off. And as you press the gas nothing happens. Incident occurred on 9-15-26 at approx. 1:16 PM (PST) and 6205 miles. Vehicle uncontrollably rolled/moved opposite to the selected drive gear while waiting for the clutch to engage. Had stopped on a flat paved road to allow a pedestrian to cross by, but when I released the brake pedal, the vehicle unexpectedly moved backwards immediately - despite being in drive gear. Had to slam on brakes to stop this. Fortunately, no vehicle was behind me otherwise could have collided. No warning messages, etc. prior to this incident.

The auto start/stop on this car is super slow and will turn off the engine before the car comes to a complete stop. It causes confusion at intersections because of the slow getaway and has nearly caused several collisions. For instance, last week I was turning left at an intersection. The left turn was a yield, so i am turning across oncoming traffic. This is the usual intersection in my city. I did not come to a complete stop and started to turn left. I left plenty of space to the oncoming traffic. To my surprise, the engine had turned …

Email sent to BMW describing a hesitancy or delay on acceleration from a dead stop: I have attached a link below to a blog from January, 2023, describing this problem on 2023 BMW X1; it includes a description of the issue on a video review of this car by Consumers Report.   Apparently, this has not been corrected.  My new 2023 X1 has this significant and dangerous problem.  I was at the dealer service department for 2 1/2 hours this morning and they claimed not to be aware of the problem, although the technician did recognize the hesitancy.  T…

The vehicle is equipped with a dual clutch transmission and has the EPA mandated auto-start feature. When you stop the vehicle and the engine shuts off and then remove your foot from the brake to go forward, the engine hesitates to restart and then starts, revs, dumps the clutch and propels you forward at a dangerous rate. My wife was trying to pull into the garage and stopped a little short. When she tried to move forward about a foot, the car started and lurched forward hitting the house. The recall number for the incident is 24V-104. The car was recalled in February and the recall repair was completed May 2, 2024. They claim that some of the recall parts had a mechanical problem and that the recent repair, July, was done with parts that had been inspected. On July 22, 2024, I was backing up and when I braked the car jolted as if I hit something and the computer screen showed ABS and parking brake mal…

Recall has been ongoing since February. Received notice and letter that remedy was available and took the car to dealer. Remedy was implemented but it still shows as an open recall. Sees like the manufacturer has failed to remedy or is not able to.

A deer was standing ahead in the road and I began to brake! I was only going 25-30mph. The brakes were hard to push and it felt like something was malfunctioning eventually hitting the deer straight on!!! The Automatic Braking System did NOT work, the forward collision warning did NOT work and the BRAKES did not work after pressing hard to brake to avoid a collision!!! I have had this BMW for over a year and have had several recalls that the dealership fixed EXCEPT for the IB recall issued on 2/12/24 that they still have NO REMEDY!!!!!!! N…

am writing to report a potential safety and fire hazard issue involving my BMW X1, along with ongoing electrical concerns I have experienced with this vehicle since purchase. Approximately two weeks ago, for the first time in three years, I needed to bring the vehicle in for an oil change. Due to my work commute of more than two hours each way, neither the BMW dealership near my home nor the one near my workplace was able to accommodate me within a reasonable timeframe. Because I could not continue driving without service, I brought the vehicle…
