ON 4/25/08 I CALLED HARLEY DAVIDSON [phone removed] AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE WAITING ON A VENDOR FOR PARTS TO FIX THE PROBLEM ,AND THEY HAD NO ESTIMATED TIME OF ARRIVAL FOR THE PARTS. DT: HARLEY DAVIDSON 2005 FLSTSCI - SPRINGER CLASSIC. THERE IS A LOT OF WHEEL WOBBLE DUE TO A BENT FRONT RIM. CONSUMER UNKNOWINGLY BOUGHT THE MOTORCYCLE WITH A BENT FRONT RIM. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FROM EXTENDED SERVICE PLAN SAID HE COULD FIND NO ROAD HAZARD CONDITIONS THAT COULD CAUSE THIS WOBBLE. THIS WAS MORE LIKELY CAUSED WHEN THE RIM WAS MANUFACTURED. THIS HAPPENED WHEN DRIVING AT 40 MPH, AND THEN AGAIN AT 80 MPH. IT IS MORE PREVALENT AT 40 MPH, AND IN A CURVE OR TURN. THE HANDLE BARS WILL ACTUALLY WOBBLE. ALSO, ALMOST LIKE …

I OWN A FLHTPI. I APPLIED THE FRONT BRAKE ON THE DAY LISTED. I WAS VERY LUCKY THAT I WAS ONLY GOING 4 OR 5 MILES AN HOUR. THE FRONT BRAKE LEVER MOVED ALL THE WAY UP TO THE HANDLE BAR AT WHICH POINT THE FRONT BRAKES COMPLETELY FAILED ALLOWING THE BIKE TO CONTINUE TO MOVE FORWARD. I PUMPED THE FRONT BRAKE LEVER SEVERAL TIMES AND GOT SOME PRESSURE BACK. I TOOK THE BIKE THE DEALER WHERE ONE FRONT PAD WAS MISSING FROM THE BACKING PLATE AND THE OTHER CAME APART WHILE CHANGING THE PADS. I COULD HAVE VERY EASILY BEEN INJURED OR KILLED. *TR

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison
