24V461000 · Air Bags:Side/Window:Curtain

Reported: 2024-06-20 (June 20, 2024) · Model years: 2024

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander, Grand Highlander Hybrid, Lexus TX350, TX500 Hybrid, and TX550 Hybrid+ vehicles. The driver and passenger side curtain air bags may not unroll as intended and could partially deploy outside of an open window. Consequence: An improper deployment of the side curtain air bag can reduce occupant protection during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy: Dealers will replace the driver and passenger curtain shield air bag assemblies, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed November 4, 2024. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's numbers for this recall are 24TB09/24TA09 and Lexus' numbers are 24LB05/24LA05.

Vehicle Information Make: Lexus Model: TX350 Luxury Year: 2025 Mileage: 580 miles VIN: [XXX] Summary of Complaint At just 580 miles, my brand-new Lexus TX350 Luxury's AC failed on first use. I heard hissing and saw oil residue under the hood. The Clearwater, FL dealership diagnosed it as a punctured AC condenser due to “road debris” and quoted $2,000 to repair. The car had no visible damage, and I asked to keep the part for independent analysis but was denied, despite offering to pay in full. Photos show the vehicle in flawless condition. Lex…

The AC stopped working and now they are charging me to replace the condenser which is located right in the front behind the grill. They said it was damaged from a rock that hit it. There are thousands of these vehicles that have this poor design where all these condensers are getting hit and having consumers pay for this damage because it is not under warranty. These should be recalled or repaired for free as it is obvious there should be some kind of screen to prevent this as the grill gives no protection.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

No selected model years have a complete observation window. Choose an eligible year or a shorter window.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.

On our 2025 Lexus TX350, less than 1 year old, and under normal driving conditions, our AC stopped working suddenly. Upon inspection at the dealership, they determined a rock or road debris came through the front grill and impacted the condenser, which caused a major refrigerant leak and ac to stop working. I believe this was due to a poor design of the lower half of the front grill, it’s wide open and offers little to no protection to ac and engine components. They should have a better honeycomb or similar grill to protect components. The refr…

The vehicle's lower front fascia exhibits a design flaw, creating an unsafe gap that permits road debris to impact the condenser, leading to air conditioning system damage. This compromise in the A/C system's functionality results in an inability to adequately cool the vehicle's interior, thereby creating potentially unsafe operating conditions, particularly in high-temperature environments. It has been observed that dealerships are declining warranty coverage for these repairs, and the manufacturer has not provided any countermeasures to addre…

The vehicle looses power and hesitates to accelerate from a stop start. This happens when The HV Battery State of Charge (SOC) is below 30%. •The vehicle is in catalyst warm-up mode (cold start). The Motor Generator (MG) is in charge mode. As a result of this scenario I have almost been T boned 3 times while attempting a left turn from my home across a dual carriage lane. And again nearly rear ended because of the lack of power or hesitation. To me this is a big safety concern that Lexus do not have a credible fix for.
