19V787000 · Communication

Reported: 2019-11-01 (November 1, 2019) · Model years: 2015, 2016

Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC. The plastic rail guides/sliders broke and the sunroof stopped closing and opening correctly. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? I consider this issue a SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE that could be LIFE-THREATENING and all Mercedes-Benz service departments should be alerted to the problem. Mercedes-Benz should issue a revised, more user-friendly label so independent tire shops will not misread the label and over-inflate customers' tires. The tire inflation specifications provided for this vehicle, located both on the B-pillar and gas filler flap, are configured poorly and lead techs, both at Mercedes service departments and independent tire shops, to grossly over-inflate the tir…

The instrument cluster would fail intermittently, the speedometer would be my accurate speed, and then suddenly 0. Same for RPMs, gas, etc. Then after a period of time they would work again. Some times is was just oscillating back and forth between the failure modes. My blinkers would be on, but the instrument cluster and "click" would be out of sync. The "hold" feature that would hold the break was unavailable during the error state. All the instrument cluster lights would be blinking on and off rapidly. (have video)

I was driving and my car randomly changed to neutral on the highway in traffic. I could not changed the gear and was almost hit by several cars that swirved around me. I DISCOVERED FROM THE NHTSA WEBSITE THAT MY VEHICLE HAS AN OPEN RECALL ON THE PASSENGER-SIDE FRONTAL AIRBAG. THE REMEDY SHOWN ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE IS FOR AN AUTHORIZED MERCEDES-BENZ DEALER TO REPLACE THE AIRBAG. TWO M-B DEALERS HAVE TOLD ME THAT THE REMEDY IS NOT YET AVAILABLE. I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR FOR MORE THAN 5 YEARS, AND I SUSPECT THIS DEFECT HAS BEEN KNOWN BY MERCEDES-BENZ FOR MOST OF THIS TIME. IT IS TIME FOR THEM TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. 1. *Component Failure*: The sunroof/moonroof has stopped functioning correctly due to broken plastic rail guides/sliders, causing issues with opening and closing. Additionally, there's a potential risk of the sunroof detaching from the vehicle due to faulty bonding between the sunroof glass panel and the sliding roof frame. 2. *Safety Risk*: The safety risk is significant, as a detached sunroof can pose a hazard to other road users if it separates from the vehicle while driving at high speeds. This issue can lead to accidents, injuries, or even…

On the morning of April 28, 2026, at approximately 7:30 AM, I discovered that the front panel of the panoramic sunroof on my 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLA45 AMG had spontaneously shattered while the vehicle was parked at my residence in Meridian, Idaho.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

I was driving and my car randomly changed to neutral on the highway in traffic. I could not changed the gear and was almost hit by several cars that swirved around me. There is a recall for the 2019 version of the car for this very same issue but it exists in all years prior and Mercedes has not addressed it.
