MY SON AND I BOTH OWN CHEVROLETS S10 TRUCKS. BOTH OF THEM DEVELOPED PROFUSE OIL LEAKS FROM THE OIL FILTER ADAPTER LINES. THIS CAUSED A TOTAL HEMORRHAGE OF OIL BEFORE IT COULD BE DISCOVERED AND DAMAGED THE ENGINES. WHAT A SURPRISE TO DISCOVER SEVERAL OTHER SIMILAR GENERAL MOTORS VEHICLES IN THE SAME SHOP WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THE SHOP OWNERS SAID THIS IS A COMMON DEFECT WITH THESE CHEVROLET AND GMC TRUCKS, AND THAT THEY HAD REPLACED LEAKING LINES ON 8 OR 10 IN JUST THE PAST MONTH. 93V008000 · Engine And Engine Cooling:Cooling System:Fan
Reported: 1993-01-14 (January 14, 1993)
THE ENGINE COOLING FAN BLADES BREAK AS A RESULT OF FATIGUE AND/OR VEHICLE INDUCED STRESS.
Consequence: IF THE BLADE BREAKAGE OCCURS WHILE THE HOOD IS OPEN, APERSON WORKING UNDER THE HOOD OR IN THE VICINITY OF THE VEHICLE COULD BE STRUCKAND INJURED BY THE BLADE SEGMENT.
THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT LOOSENS AT THE STEERING SHAFT TO STEERING GEAR COUPLING. WITH THIS LOOSENESS, THE YOKE PINCH BOLT CAN WEAR ON THE SPLINES OF THE SHAFT UNTIL THERE IS NO LONGER AN INTERFERENCE BETWEEN THE SPLINES AND THE BOLT.
Consequence: THIS CONDITION CAN CAUSE BODY TO CHASSIS MOVEMENT ALLOWING THE STEERING SHAFT TO SEPARATE FROM THE STEERING GEAR WHICH CAN RESULT IN A LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL RETORQUE THE UPPER AND LOWER BOLTS TO CORRECT SPECIFICATIONS.

Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
Equal-age model-year comparison
